410ci 100% street car - manual valve body?

I had a sebring before this that had the "manual valve body" for all intents and puposes... thought it would be cool... I ended up never using it... without the ability to dump the clutch vs shift easy it took all the fun out of it...

To me I would go with the 'nator since you are staying with the auto.

The ones that come on a factory car (and I can only imagine what a performance piece must have been on that Sebring) is NOTHING like the ones we're talking about here, aside from you can change gears on your own without a clutch. They are NOT alike.

I have an "AutoStick" transmission in my G35 and it's pretty much a joke aside from being able to get a 5th gear in "stick" mode. And you can hold the gears too, but it doesn't do and the valve body is not strong for hard shifts (aka - don't push it!) I really have no idea what it's supposed to be great for aside from letting people play with the shifter. Again it's nothing like a full manual valve body built for performance aspects. Nothing. At. All.

I manual shifted my automatic for years. The only problem with holding the gears I had on my AODE is the heat it builds up in the transmission. I also downshifted it manually. It's hard to say if the wear in the transmission was from that, or the nitrous.

I will say that for an AODE that is still setup like factory. If you manual shift the car, it engages the O/D band in the gears on top of just the 1st or 2nd gear. More holding power, but potential for more O/D wear as the heat builds up.

I've considered going to a manual vb before, but talk myself out of it each time. The cost is high, and I still may want my g/f or another family member to be able to jump in the car and go without needing special instructions.

FWIW and so nobody confuses this with anything else, when you build a transmission and/or put a manual valve body in it, unless you or your builder is completely out of their mind, you put in heavy duty bands and clutches to handle holding gears and shifting hard. :nice: On top of that, an external cooler to handle temperatures.

If you're really worried about other people not being able to drive it, why not get a combo valve body where they can put it in D and go, like stock, and you can pull whatever gear you like? Those are readily available at all the big builders and any smalltime shop worth their salt can build one.

O' you were close enough. ;) Do you wear a mullet by chance? :rlaugh:

What the **** is your problem? You come in here spouting off the stupidest bull**** I've ever seen in regards to something you apparently no NOTHING about, then go off topic when I ask you to explain why you said what you said?

Now WHY would I have a mullet? Do I drive a Camaro or a Trans Am? Or maybe you must think my Mustang must be a rusty rat-infested old junker that has parts falling off...right?

back off guys. i don't want to get this thread locked. moderator, can you remove the off-topic, arguing posts?

fwiw, i will tend to believe what mansonozz says because he has done some amazing things with his car; i would be extremely proud to have a car just like his. and he actually owns the manual VB i am talking about. and he drives his car 100% on the street, much the same as i intend to drive my car. so his word means alot to me.

if i were near by, i would love feel how mansonozz's car drives, i would also love to feel how pokageek's drives.

i'm gonna call broader again and ask a few more questions, then i'll most likely order the manual vb.

No offense, isn't that kinda what I have already? An Automatic with Heavy duty bands and clutches that I CAN manual shift... but it will shift on it's own if you leave it in drive. :D

Maybe I read it wrong but didn't you say you had a stock AODE?

Stock Valve Body with a shift kit on a rebuilt (better bands/clutches) AODE. Even so, wouldn't a bone stock AODE let you manually shift and shift for you. That was my point.

In my car, 1st is 1st, 2nd is 2nd, and 3rd = 1,2,3 and O/D = 1,2,3,O/D Since we only race in the first three gears. Why would I spend the money to have an aftermarket valvebody set up just like what I already have, if I wanted both?

i'm sure you don't need it. remember, this thread is about my specific situation. my tranny does not behave that way, and if i could get it fixed, i would. but since i can't find anyone willing (or able) to figure it out and fix it, :bang: i have to go to plan b.

believe me, i'd like to be able to just put it in D and go, or shift manually. without computer control though, my understanding is that i would either need to go to an AOD tranny, or a manual valve body on my 4R70W. i could be wrong though, i am waiting for jay to call me back.

i know what is coming, go to the baumannator then. my reservation there is that since these bozos won't touch my current setup, they probably won't want to deal with installing one of those either. a manual valve body install is a whole lot more straightforward.
