428 Cam Specs

Any one have the specs on the 1968 428 PI cam? Also am in need of the cam specs on a "COMP CAMS" bumpstick for the same motor.

I'm running a Crane 801 in my 390. It's been called a 428 cam on steroids.

If you want Comp Cam specs, just go to their website.

For the factory cam: 270 degrees intake, 290 degrees exhaust, lift is .481 intake and .490 exhaust. Old books don't list lobe spacing.

Same specs as the 390 GT cam.

Crane's 272 degree Energizer also works well for a street motor. I've got one in the 390 in my 68 Merc. Allows this engine with 10.25 to 1 compression to run on 89 octane gas.

Thanks for the info. I am working with an owner of a GT-500 in my SAAC region who has owned the car since 1972, finally freshening the motor. Stock cams are hard to find, so indeed, he is looking at the aftermarket bumpsticks. He is trying to find a nice street cam, as the car is used mostly for parades & street drives.

The 272 degree Energizer has a somewhat smooth idle, only a hint of a lope when cold. Excellant off idle performance up to 5500 rpms. When the engine's warmed up , you'd swear it had a stock cam. My 390 is just about completely stock, even has it's original 10.5 to 1 cast flat tops, C8AE-H heads, only thing I changed was the intake, swapped to a 428PI aluminum one, topped with a Holley 750 and added a set of FPA headers.

Lunati also makes a hotted up 428CJ/390GT cam.

Melling offers a stock cobra jet grind and Crane did at one time but it isn't in the catalog anymore, perhaps they can do it if you call.

i think comp cams has a stock cj cam in the muscle car cams line. iis usually in the back of the catalog, i don't know if they have it online you may need to call them.
