And you can go 10's and have decent gas mileage and be fully streetable with a nice 331 and GT42 turbo.

i have always wanted to put a 460 in my sn95. it would be freakin awesome! having that sick big block sound. and snoozer a h/c/i 460 would rape your 302, built or not. that is if the 460 car could get any hint of traction. then they could always spray a 250 shot on the 460 and put another 5 carlengths on you.

Do you know how much a set of aftermarket cylinder heads for a 460 cost? Try about 5000 bucks. Sometimes that is the unassembled price.

A properly built 460 will smoke anything, but the cost to build one, and the people that actually know what they are doing with a BBF are few and far between. If you build a 460 strong enough, your only trans choice is a Powerglide. None of Ford's transmissions are strong enough even when built right. If your trans guy is honest enough, he'd tell you the same thing. A serious BBF will eat C4 after C4, and the same can be said for the C6.

Do you know how much rocker arms for a BBF cost? Jesel makes a shaft system for about 4 times the price of 302 rockers. I'd rather stick with the 250 dollar Mags or Pro-Mags.

A comparison of a 460 and a 302 is apples to oranges. If you were given 10,000 dollars to build a motor, and you built a 460, all the money would be gone before you found a car to put it in, a trans that is capable of living behind it, and a rear to support the horsepower. Sure you could half ass one together, but you might as well build a 302 derivative.

this is what i am talking about.

he doesnt realize what a 460 takes to run well. there is a guy here with one.

you have to go carbed unless you want the gay R/V efi intake setup... and thats reeeeaaaal good for performance

so you have a carbbed 460...
ok you need custom headers to squeeze in there
you need motormounts.
You are putting in a 3 speed auto tranny...thats greeeeaaat for the street
you will need a stall for that
c6 tranny crossmember
bellhousing
your front is going to need a custom spring rate
heads for the 460... as joe said
good luck with your cam too
everything else with the project.
how are you going to mount your accessories? old f250 mounting brackets?
there are lots of things to be fabricated

the fact here is you have an idea that has been thought through by others and not yourself. other people think that it sounds like a cool idea yet they would never take it on and have no idea what it takes and they say "yay go for it"

there are much better ways to be original and go fast.

how about a 4v mod motor with a turbo. That will scream and

dart block 347 with a wet plate kit

393- 427 stroker

any FI 302 based car.

tahs the thing about mustangs, there are so many ways to go fast. Some ideas just take alot longer to get there and will encounter more problems and not be very streetable.

I think you would be very disapointed in your project when you are done.

it will never happen

of course he will beat my stock motor gt

point is its an unrealistic combo to choose. you give me my choice in combo of a 302 based FI setup and he will NOT touch me.

and i will be able to drive mine on tthe street to work and back every day.

$900 - $1400 a piece from Edelbrock Complete. Far from $5000.

Why are there so many negative comments? People have said they have seen it done before so why would you want to say it wouldn't be worth it? Maybe for me it would be.

I'm talking about a high performance cylinder head. Edelbrock makes a tame head that won't produce nearly the power a 460 could produce. I'm not a fan of doing things half assed.

I'm not going to argue with you. A streetable 460 is not worth the money spent and extra weight added. A streetable 302 will be able to run right with it for way less cash.

Why not just drop in a FMS 514 crate motor?

625hp, $8595 list price, 9.8:1 cr means pump gas. You can make more power on pump gas with more displacement, plain and simple.

They had a guy that won the street war at my track, he had a fox with a 460 in it. Spraying a little bit of nitrous got him low 9's. Low 10's without the juice. Might be a little bit more money, but I think he's looking for something that looks a little different than what everybody else runs around here.

Well then what would you recommend I do for less money and have 600 hp and lb/ft of torque?

427 Windsor
AFR 225
Some kind of cam
CHP Spyder manifold.

That alone with all the other bolt ons will turn 550 horsepower and keep the RPMs below 6500.

Add a 250 shot and you are looking at 800 horsepower.

Research before you do anything. I'm no expert.

I was also thinking of going with a 460 a few months ago, it would have costed over 8 grand to build me a stroked 460, and pushing out around 615hp, my motor right should be pushing out around 412hp, running 9.5.1cr, if i up it to 11.1cr, and go all out roller, then I should be pushing around 512hp, and if I stroke it, like 598hp, for half of price, so I said screw the 460 and will just stick with my 357w, more parts are available for the swap, and now a days there are small blocks out here thats hangin with the big blocks, if you really want to get wild, just get like a dart block, thats a 4 bolt main, and it can handle big numbers without worrying about blowing up youre bottom end.

All you guys sound like a bunch of Honda owners I know... "Why build a 5.0 when you can have a B18 with a turbo and smoke it... "

Most of us recall the age old adage... "Theres no replacement for displacement"

The guy wants a 460.. dont tell him he's crazy.. tell him to do it..

How about the first guy who wanted aluminum heads on his 302 back in 1967? This sport is made up of pioneers, and people who aren't afraid to try new things.. jeez you guys are closed minded.

If you do go with a 460 and it is a dedicated track car don't waste money on a C4 or a C6. Go ahead and go with a glide. It will pick the car up quite a bit. The swap isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. You can get EFI intakes from CHP but, the injectors and the EFI systems to make it work isn't cheap. One friend of mine has twin 91mm turbos on his that has made some insane numbers!
