OK , I thought I knew about stangs.....but this is new to me . I 've owned 5 mustangs in my life from an 85 lx 2.3 to my current Cobra . I was talking to a girl-friend of mine and she has a 91 lx htch 2.3 . She said she has been having some problems with it stalling under load . She has it at a shop and I was telling her what all to have them check...TPS , pull codes , ck timing , etc etc . I asked her about cap , rotor , plugs and she tells me it doesnt have a distributor and it has 8 spark plugs?........is this right....WTF? Please enlighten me .

The idea I believe behind the DIS and 8 plugs is better emessions but when it comes time to do a tune-up you feel like you own a V8 If I was you I would do the work my self on her car instead of them it well be cheaper in the long run You can pick up a code checker and book for 30.00 or you can build one for like 5.00 bux and look the codes up on the net.

It's DIS (distributor ignition system) with a coil pack for each bank of plugs. Pretty easy to check normally. If the tach is irradic (jumps up and down) or reads half of the "real" rpm then the ignition module (like the TFI found on your distributor) is bad (common problem).

Its realy simple to do you can go to Auto Zone and buy a LIC plate light socket and bulb for like 3.99. Its got two wires on it and you attach a alagator clip to one end and a blade connector the to other. Then you make a jumper wire about 3" long with some small blade connectors. Its kinda hard for me to explpain which ports to plug into to get the codes.

Ok I found my links. This says for a Diseal but its basicaly the same idea and codes. The light goes between pin# 4 and the possitive side of the battery. Now the jumper I foget, I know one end goes to pin #2 but forget the other pin# ?

I did this for a while and then whent down to sears and bought a code checker with a code book. It just simplfyed my life a hair with it for only 35.00. AutoZone also sales them as well as most parts stores.

Just use a paper clip to read the codes.
