I'm planning on totally rebuilding the cobra. vortech s-trim charger, new paint job, suspension will be revamped, and i'm going to add t56 6speed manuel trans. But my question is this, the car has 82,000 miles on it and i'm thinking of taken the car to have the engine rebuilt to handle 500=rwhp without a problem. Does anybody here feel that this is necessary or a waste of money, I'm looking at spending 7,000 alone on the engine if I decide to go through with it. Includes pulling the block apart. the heads will be ported stage 1 just to clean out debri from fluids and build up, p & p intake and a new cam profile to go with it as well as having the compression changed to handle the charger better down the line. The work is garuanteed for 2 years. I'm told the car will still smog legal with this setup, and can still be a daily driver though it really will be my weekend car. And similar set ups have seen up to 600rwhp and mid 11's with good amount of practice. Any response will be most helpful. This is looking to be a 1 year project for me.

I say go for it as long as this if for fun and you have the finances to back it.

The T56 will cost you around $2200
Might as well go big bore, forged internals, P&P the heads, and add some blower cams if you are going with a blower. This will go for around $7K+. This of course is not counting all the little things that will add up like fuel system, upgraded injectors and MAF, driveshaft (aluminum) and any other things you want to add. The blower will be another $4k+.

This is all assuming you are doing the work yourself. For a good paint job expect to pay another $4-5K+ depending on what level you want.

This will be one expensive project over a 1 year period....but fun

Well the car holds a salvaged title, so for the next 6 months looks are foremost on my mind. The car is going to be getting a new set of airbags as it has none, the car needs a new hood and has rock chips all over the body and the side drivers door look like puddy type of compound from far away with a good car wash the car looks great but up close you can see the results of a salvaged car not properly put back together, by the way i'm not the original owner who wrecked the car, I bought from a body shop for 8,000 2 years ago. Also the interior is in need of update, possibly black leather. The next 6-12 months will be for the engine work. So at least I will have a sweet looking car in 6 months. Oh, by the way this my stack to be 20-25,000 coming out of my pocket

My car made 523rwhp/420rwtq with an S-trim and stock motor, it's still a daily driver and very tame on the street until you get into boost. You could run your stock motor for a while with the supercharger as long as you have a good tune and don't abuse it too much.
