ok, well lets forget the smog issue for now...how hard would a returnless system be to install. would I have to convert my in-tank pump to one from a 99+gt?

Now when you say you must have OEM exhaust and intake and all that stuff for mach 1. That just means you need that when u get smogged. so really its not different then. Just get Lt's and a o/r pipe and just swap it out when u need to get smogged. Like most other people lol

have fun swapping out the LTs every 2 years. theres a reason why im going with shorties on my motor.

Check out FRPP. I saw a DOHC 5.0 crate motor there that made some nice #'s. They might also be able to tell you what other components you will need to make it all work out

all you would need then are CARB EO'd shorties for a 98 cobra, and a OEM midpipe from a 98 Cobra.kolkid said:Would a 98 Cobra engine be easier to install? WOuld you still need to change any part of the exhaust?
the 5.0 cammer isnt legal in CA yet. the intake manifold they use has not been approved by the Air Resources Board.

Man, I'd just rebuild the 2V, PI it and put a Supercharger on it and if they have a problem, tell them to catch you and leave CA for good!

ya i would say just build a 2v motor. most of the kenne bells are CARB legal, and we dont check for static compression ratio or cams. we can check for pulley size though.
I want to stay n/a....for now. If I were to build with what I have, I would have a lot more down time. I could just do the top end, but I dont trust the bottom end with 150k on it already. so do 96-98 cobras have the same fuel system as my car? all I would have to change would be the exhaust? will the tranny mount up to the cobra 4v with out any modifications? all I want is to get into the 12's

So I could build a low compression 2v and it would be legal? What if i was running like 13 pounds?

yes you can. you have to use a CARB EO'd supercharger and intercooler. i tend to recommend Kenne Bell, but vortech, procharger, and many others have CARB EO'd kits. when you go in for inspection, the pulley you use has to be the approved size.04snake said:So I could build a low compression 2v and it would be legal?
