Hi
I bought an 1987 Ford E150 powered by a MPI 302. I'm going to use this to put the engine/tranny into my Mustang so I can drive the Mustang while I build the 351W up slowly.
Anyway I have a few questions, if anyone knows the answers too, I'd be much obliged. First: I’d like to know what it would take to bring the 87 MPI up to 89 Mustang standards concerning EFI. Does the Mustang upper fit the lower of this engine? Would it be easy to “upgrade” the engine’s TB, add a MAF, install new upper? Would I need to change the fuel rail?
Second; Is this engine a roller block? Does it have roller cam?
Third; Do any of you know if the oil pan from a van is a double sump (I can check that, no biggie)…
Last but not least; If I go with the carb route, all I need to change is my intake and distributor right? The cam will still work? I’m not sure about the firing order… I guess I’d just wire the plugs to match the 1985 302 from which the distro would come from.
Thanks
PS. I bought this on the spot when, after a YEAR of not being in use, the engine started right up on 1/4 crank. It was amazing! Oil pressure shot right up, engine made no noises, nothing. I have a new respect for the 302.
