I've got both an 86 cougar with a standard 5.0 engine and a 94 cougar with a 5.0 HO engine.

I want to put the engine/trans from the 94 cougar into my 88 mustang. I'm assuming these use the same ECU as from the 94/95 5.0 mustangs??

can I use the motor mounts and trans mount from the 94 cougar or should I use the mounts from the 86 cougar??

both cars run but obviously I want to use the HO engine over the older non-HO speed density engine...

also, can I use all the accessories on the 94 cougar or should I swap over to the 86 cougar's accessories??

well i'm not sure the mounts in the cougars are the same as the mustang. I would suggest getting 5.0L mustang mounts.

I'm pretty sure the 86 cougar has the same mounts since it shares the same platform and k-member.

anyone know about the 94 cougar mounts??

i know this is an old thread but i'll contribute just to add to the cause'

94 cougar is a 4.6 not a 5.0, However if its a late 93 it will have a 5.0 H.O.
^^which is probably what you have.

the ecu between the tbird/cougar is specific, the sn95 mustang is a lot better deal for tuning, the bird/coug ecu is not supported much.

You will want to use the ecu from the 93 cougar.

the cougar has the mn12 style mounts, they will not mate properly to the fox body K. Your best bet would be to reuse the stock fox mounts.

the headers on the 93 cougar will be spaced lower than the mid pipes on the fox, those headers are a major restriction on the cougar, swap them out with some fox shorties and you should gain 15hp.

the intake manifold on the cougar is also very restrictive. Ford designed the intakes for the mn12 specific so it would clear the hood. However its a great bottleneck, replacing it with a fox intake will gain you 10hp.

the 93 cougar comes stock with a 53mm MAF, you can swap it out to the 94+ cougars which have a 70mm unit, however you should get your computer tuned.

that about sums it up, have fun and enjoy.

wow, yeah...really old thread lol.

engine has been in the car for a good little while now.

I used the intake manifold setup from the 86 cougar 5.0 engine as well as the bracket setup from the same car.

I grabbed an engine harness from an 89 5.0 5speed mustang as well as an a3m1 ecu since its cheaper than the a9l and has the same maps. I also grabbed a stock maf from a maf mustang. the engine mounts are from a fox body convertible 5.0 mustang.

still havent cranked it yet though as I've had other stuff to do lately and I just havent taken the time to make fuel lines for it yet.

If you can get one, be on the look out for an '87-'93 HO intake manfold. As bad as the stock manifold is on the 5.0L HO's, the non HO that's found on that '86 you stripped is even more restrictive. 50mm Throttle body inlets FTL!?!

yeah, that intake is only gonna be on it until the car fires up for the first time and while I go through any troubleshooting to make sure it's running correctly. I kept the old cougar intake manifold setup and already ported the lower manifold and have already cut the mushroom top off the upper intake and welded a tube on it as, once I get it running correctly, I'm throwing on a pair of spare t3's from my svo and running a tweecer with 42lb/hr injectors
