5.0 main seal question

Hey I have a 95 GT with the 5.0 the front main seal is leaking I was wondering are the front and rear main seal the same b/c pep boys dint have it in there system but they have the rear main seal.

and also how hard is it to change out the front main seal? do I have to remove the oil pan?

not the same! you need a crankshaft seal...its not called a front main seal...good install info below click on link below and scroll down to 5.0 install. no need to remove oil pan...and you should be able to rent the special seal install and extract tool and balancer puller at autozone for a cash deposit but you get the deposit back after you return the tool....

Bill is correct. It may also be called a timing cover seal. Pepboys didn't stock it when I needed one, but I did end up getting a full gasket set for the water pump and timing cover that included the seal from Murray's. It's a PITA because the balancer needs to come off (good time to see if it needs replacing if it's a stocker), but the seal swap itself isn't difficult. I had my timing cover off so it was easier, but you should be able to do it no problem in under an hour.
