5.0 Standing Start Mile Run

Has anybody ever done a standing start 1 mile measured run? I got a chance to see a couple of Fox Mustangs and a 2001 Bullitt run at the Maxton, NC Hot Rod Challenge this past Saturday. It is run by the East Coast Timing Association.

I wasn't throughly impressed by any of them, especially the Bullitt. The two Mustangs were newer fuel injected LX's. I couldn't tell you the year but I think they were 90 to 92 based on the body trim. Anyway, one pulled a 108 MPH, I think it was sick or something. The other one pulled a 125 or so on the first pass and a 129 on the second pass. Both 5.0s appeared to be bone stock.

The Bullitt's first pass was a 122 and his best pass was a 127! I thought they were faster than that but apparently not.

The fastest car there was some sort of racing hotrod thing. I can't tell what those cars are even of I get up close to them. Anyway, he pulled a 255 and the fastest motorcycle was a 237.

The ECTA only runs at Maxton. They have 4 more events this year so book a motel room and come on down. Welcome to ECTA

We saw license plates from all over the nation there. Even California. This is a big deal among top speed freaks.

120 in a mile is not very fast at all...

I've read up on this stuff, its pretty cool. I'd like to give it a try sometime.

FWIW, 125-130 for a bone stock 5.0 is not bad at all. Consider that Foxes top out at 149-150 in stock form, and one mile of flat out acceleration would be gone after about 35-40 seconds.

Think about it, anybody who has been faster than 125 in a Fox probably had a running start at ~60mph or so and I'm sure ran the car for more than a mile. I'll plead to 5th on that one.

Yea, the 01 Bullitts were not all that fast. IIRC, they just had some appearance stuff, upgraded shocks and springs, and maybe a factory CAI. Not much faster than the 01 GTs.

You also have to remember that for each 10 MPH increase the resistance is squared. You're taking a 225 HP at the crank engine and trying to push a whole lotta air out of the way. Add in the fact that a lot of cars run out of 4th gear at around 120 or so and that's quite a struggle for 5th gear on 2.73 rear gears.

You also have to remember that for each 10 MPH increase the resistance is squared. You're taking a 225 HP at the crank engine and trying to push a whole lotta air out of the way. Add in the fact that a lot of cars run out of 4th gear at around 120 or so and that's quite a struggle for 5th gear on 2.73 rear gears.

Fox cars are actually fastest in 4th gear. The engine cannot overcome the wind resistance in 5th. Basically, at redline in 4th you're doing high 140s, assuming you have the stock rear end gears.

My terminator runs 125MPH in the 1/4 mile. So to get 100-125MPH in a full mile is sad.

I know NOTHING about the mile run, but I think 125 for a fox is pretty good, the Bullitt I would expect to see a bit more mph and the 109 mph fox has issues...

Well... I'm going to try it myself soon. I need to get a set of decent hi speed tires, get my front end aligned and put front brakes on. They wouldn't even let me run with the Cooper Cobras that I have now.
