what would it take to get an 88 gt engine ready for twin turbo? what size fuel injectors, what kind of seals, wiring harness, etc.?

How much HP?

Depending on how much you're goal is...you might need an entirely new block/engine

probably around 450-500. the engine as it sits has about 280, and i found a twin turbo kit for $850 that will bolt on no prob. i'm just curious as to a good setup for the motor. My grandad says i can't build something to keep up with his 06 roush stage 3 i want to prove him wrong. Nitrous is not an option because i don't want him saying i cheated

at 500 hp you will be driving a time bomb in most cases, it is possible but dangerous.

Whats the condition of the motor..miles, compression ratio, ever been rebuilt etc...

Typically i like to say 400HP is the max on a stock block. I wouldn't go much more past that.

Sure you can build something that will beat his roush, but depends on how much money you have. Friend of mine has a 1000HP 5.1L turbo motor...but i won't even tell you how much it cost (it's a magazine cover car)

the motor was rebuilt about 12k miles ago and it's in great shape but i don't know the compression ratio
as for the turbos themselves i can get a twin turbo kit for the car for about $850 would having the block bored over help me and would a Jet performance chip or similar do any good with a turbo

What components was it rebuilt with?

You really need expensive forged internals like stronger crank and connecting rods.

Even the block is limited to around 400ish HP.

You can run the kit, but you need a very conservative tune as 450-500HP would be running on borrowed time.

Off-the-shelf chips are crap. Don't bother. You'll need a custom dyno tune either way with the TT setup just to give it a conservative tune. I definitely would not slap it on without any sort of tuning as that will increase the chances of blowing the motor.

Which turbo kit are you looking at?

that's the kit pic. the forged internals i can get easily. could i bore the engine over and drop a sleeve in to protect the block? I'm assuming forged pistons should go along with the rest of the internals. as for the rebuild it was done with identical parts. the owner just wanted it to be stock so it's been redone with stock parts. very clean though.

I think you should do some searching on this forum as well as on turbomustangs.com. Those kits that you linked to are garbage. You really need to look into something a little more well built and tested.

Look into HP, ponydown, and BG for some complete kits and hotside parts. You really need to do your research before stuffing any kind of boost onto your car. These ebay kits are cheap. The headers are known to crack/warp and i have no idea about the quality of the turbos themselves...but i cant imagine them being that good seeing as the whole kit is $850...when one good turbo costs over 300-400 bucks at a minimum.

The quality on those e-bay kit's are suspect at best. He also needs to keep in mind that the picture he listed is missing a TON of items needed to complete the kit….the biggest of which being the entire hot and cold side of the turbo kit.

As mentioned, I'd look into either fabricating a complete kit yourself….or buy a complete kit from one of the mentioned reputable company's.

As far as the engine goes….the stock internals (both forged and hyper) are more than capable of exceeding the stock block's h/p limits. As far as injectors go….you will need at minimum 42lb injectors along with a matching maf meter (or a stand alone ecu setup which works off of MAP). It's possible to "get away" without having a complete tune at mild boost levels. You can do this by simply locking the timing at a known safe level (typically ~18* total will do). You will sacrifice some hp/tq as well as some drivability however….and in the end there is no substitute for a good custom tune.

There is still a ton of stuff to get with that kit. while the price sounds good it might give you trouble down the road. As for the stock block people say 400/500 is the max, just depends on who built it. The tune is crucial on making any motor live especially a turbo one. good luck.
