im getting ready to put 5.0 into my stang. its a 4banger currently, and i have some extra time. My question is how would a 7.5 rearend hold up with the 5.0 automatic? didnt 79-86's come with 7.5? or re they all 8.8?
any feedback would be great. Thanx.

Ford switched to an 8.8 behind the V8 cars in 1986 because there were so many problems with 7.5s blowing up behind stock motors. Mine blew and locked up on me when my motor was still very much stock. An 8.8 is cheap insurance. Cruise the junkyards, classifieds, swap meets, etc. It'll be worth it.

Right. 7.5 inches, and 8.8 inches. Like they said, go get an 8.8- should be able to find one for a couple hundred bucks, and it's an easy bolt in swap. Just make sure you save your 7.5 brake lines, you may need them. I seem to remember something not lining up when I did my '84- but it was a long time ago.

I have a nice complete 8.8 in baltimore, with FMS 3.73's and complete drum brakes too. Let me know if I could help you out.
