I recently purchased a 5.0L/302 GT-40 Aluminum head long block engine assembly (P/N M-6007-XB3M) from Ford Motorsports. The engine was installed by a reputable shop. Upon picking up the car (1994 Mustang GT), I had a very obvious valve train noise from the r/s of the engine. Ran the engine approx 100 miles and noise did not subside. Changed the oil (20W50) and there was no abnormal particles in the oil. Drove engine another 75 miles and noise continued to get louder. Had towed back to installer. Roller rocker and valve lash were checked 2 times and no problems were found with upper valve rocker train. We suspected valve guides are too tight but we are unable to pinpoint tapping noise. Changed oil again, cut oil filter open and no debris (silver or gold) detected. Has anyone else had a similar experience or could point me in the right direction.

I had a Ford Racing Gt-40 Crate B-303 cam motor recently installed in my 93 Gt Mustang. I have 700 miles on it. I had valve noise at around 2000 rpms to 2500 rpms.
I called Ford Racing. They told me that it is normal noise with my engine and cam. They did many hours of testing and with the set up and cam and there where no problems and no way of eliminating the noise. That's just the way it is they said. It's normal, but call them just to be sure. How loud is it? With my engine, you had to really listen for it.
My engine screams, no complaints. 13.4 102 mph in the 1/4 mile so far and I'm sure it has more in it!!!
Good Luck

By the way, they reccomend 10w30 conventional oil for the first 500 miles of break in and 10w30 after that. 20w50 is more for high performance race engines. I'm running valvoline 10w30 VR-1 race oil.
