Ok, I have done a 5 lug conversion once before and bought the axles myself and NO problem.

I purchased a set of axles from another local board quite some time ago and didnt think much about it. I went to install the axles last night and ran into a small problem.

The axles physically fit in the rear end, were the right lenght, spline, etc. But when I went to put the brake drums on... no fit

The drums are brand new 9" 90 ranger drums with a 2.5" center hole. The mustang 4 lug drums were also 9" with the 2.5 center hole.

The axle has a 2.75 hub register ring on it. The axles came in a box marked E3TZ-4234-C and are listed for the ranger with 7.5".

Did I get something special, or axles for the 10" drums?

Thanks for your help. Mark

Sounds like 10" axles possibly. I would repost in the fox section. I have a site on my favorites at home that details 8.8 axles, but I bet the fox boys can answer that before I get home.

dumb question here but why are you installing an 8.8 and trying to use 7.5 axles?

Thats what the part number crosses to, but I am unsure of whether or not they are those axles. I bought them used and went by what they said... I am just trying to figure it out.

I called an axle manfacturer today and they are saying the hub size on the axle is correct, and they are suspecting the parts house gave me the wrong drums... I am going there now.

Thanks for all the help.

well... I got rooked on these axles. The guy sold me SN95 axles, because they are too long and they match up to the registration hub... so I have to get another set. I might be able to get $20 for them now to someone....

Oh well, live and learn, so if you have any 5 lug 8.8 axles laying around... I'll buy them.

http://mjbobbitt.home.comcast.net/mustang/5lug.html I paid $70 for mine from a junk yard. They even delivered them to a muffler shop down the street.

You got taken on those axles. It sounds like someone bought the Ranger axles to swap them into an SN95 rear and get a Fox length setup then sold you the SN95 parts.
