5-lug Rims for a fox

I am in the process of doing a 5-lug conversion on my fox body, the brakes im using require at least 17x8 rims, i want to put 17x8 in the front and 17x10.5 in the rear. Will they fit? Do the fenders have to be rolled? Does anyone have them on the rear of their fox? If so can i see a couple of pics? Also, what size tires go on a 17x8 rim and a 17x10.5?

Thanks

No rolling fenders. I have 17 X 8's and 17 X 9's in the back. No problems. You can go up to 18's without rolling the fenders.

Won't work right on a lowered car more than likely. Because the tire will probably be under the rear fenders instead of inside them.

There is no point in running a 10.5 rim. Because with the correct tire for the rim, it's gonna rub on something when you hit bumps.

if you are going to run bullits , take off the quad shocks and run 8 inch wheels and a 245-45-17 tire , if you go with a 275-40-17 you have to beat in the inner fender wells , I think a 9 inch wheel would be very close to rubbing ..........

What size is the correct tire? My car isnt lowered and not going to be, i am getting a set of eibach drag springs. Just got my Lakewood 50/50 drag shocks.

Probably about a 305, and take my word for it, that's too wide. I run a 275 and it takes up every available ounce of space. The drag springs will give you a little extra room, but still on bad bumps the tires are going to rub somewhere.

Use up to a 9 inch wide rim, you won't miss the extra rubber.

When measured across with a tape measure, my 275's are exactly 10.5 inches wide on my 9 rims, which as i said fills the wheel well completely, and on hard cornering they do rub a bit with rolled fenders.

So the 10.5 rim will probably fit, but now you are going to have a tire that is too small for that rim, and it will look stretched, and likely have a worse contact patch.

The 5-lug conversion will definietly make that 10.5in rim fit better, you'll need to put some spacers, and some custom modification,.....because i'm about to do the whole thing in about 2 weeks...and that's what I was told.

Think about it this way....if you got the money...you can do it. I'm a lucky guy because the guy that's going to do the same thing you basically want to do is a good friend of mine so he's going to do it for a very good price.

Here's how my setup is going to go: UP FRONT - 17x9" Chrome Cobra R wheels with Mickey Thompson Drag Radials, with probably 245s.

OUT IN THE BACK - 18x10.5" Chrome Cobra R wheels with Mickey Thompson Drag Radial; 305s.
I'm going to get the 5 lug conversion kit- which comes with (2) 5-Lug Front Rotors
- (2) 5-Lug Rear Axles & Drums
- (2) Inner & Outer Front Wheel Bearings
- (2) Front Rotor Grease Seals
- (2) Axle Bearing & Seal Kits
- (1) Bottle of Friction Modifier
- (3) Bottles of Royal Purple 75W90 Gear Oil

I'm definitely going to get 13" Disc brakes all around, but that's going to be later on. I'm also going to get new shocks that'll better clear those wide rims. Not sure on specifics yet, i stilll got to talk to the mechanic.

I own a '90 Mustang GT (Hatchback)

Got to be careful with wide rims. They push the rims out 3/4". Offset is key in this situation. Pay attention to what you buy. Most of the standard aftermarket wheels I see don't offer the correct offset for that axle length.

Unless you can get some sort of custom offset, I would stick to a 9" wheel. With the SN95 axles, you are limited. If you like the Cobra R, get 2 M-1007-R58's for the front, and 2 M-1007-m179's for the rear. The R58 has a 24mm offset, which fits perfect in the front. The M179's have a 36mm offset, and only stick the rim out .28" from stock. These will look great.
