I am torn wether I should do a 5-speed conversion or to do Heads and Intake. I have a shop that will do either and cost is about the same for parts and labor. How much better is a 5-speed vs a AOD? I have had 2 other mustangs before this one and all seemed much faster but those had c-4's in them so does the 5-speed make that much diffrence? Or will adding alum heads and intake more than make up for the AOD? Car is a daily driver and is a street car maybe once or twice a year take to the track. Any info or ideas would be great, thanks.

Without a converter in that auto you will never see the potential of the H/I. Then a tranny cooler and a shift kit are a must. I think a 5-speed would be better for the time being as after the H/I your gonna have to address the AOD, with the 5-speed a good clutch and shifter you will have a quicker car (than the AOD) and later on with the H/I you will feel the results more so.

I 3rd this topic. Do a 5spd swap first. More fun, and the car will be ready for HCI in the fall/next spring.

It will make it feel like a different car all together if you do the swap. Even if you end up building the aod later... you don't get to dump the clutch like it hates your floorboard.
