I am tired of my automatic and I wanna know what all I need to swap it from a automatic to a 5 speed. If anyone knows, would you please tell me. I would appreciate it very much. My Mustang is a 86 model V-6 convertible.

well first off you'll need a manual tranny, a Clutch assembally kit, and i think you'll have to mod your center counsle, you'll need a shift kit might want to run with a short throw kit.. its not an easy project but people do it all the time its gonna Cost you some ## Dont get anything used exept for the counsle.. after you fallow threw with this project your not gonna want to spend more money replaceing bad parts.. my buddy next door is converting his T/A and it doesnt look like hes having anyproblems yet but he also is not done yet..

don't listen to newbie's(not you jason) the swap is hard if you are not mechanicaly inclined and don't have a full set of tools, otherwise it does not seem that bad(have not done it but will this winter, and have looked over many write up's on it), just google search and search on here and you will get plenty of information, i would buy every thing used, except the obvious clutch, throwout brearing Ect.... ohh and good luck finding a t-5 they are getting rare and are way more expensive that any of the rest of it, if you find a cheap t-5 i think you could do it for under a thousand, many, many peple on here have done it for that and less, however getting a ford t-5z from summit is a good idea to only 999.00 and good to like 350 foot pounds, and many guys have pushed them past that and they have held up... gl and use the search

Not tough at all. Hardest part is getting the old trans out and getting the new pedal assy. in. A full set of tools and a little patience will get you there. Check out

westcoastfords.com in the tech section for a good write up.

i guess im the noob, so ill take affence to that go buy a beat on t5 for 999 listen to him he knows what he talken about ? buy a brand new on from here--> www.summitracing.com for 1,300 whats 299 for somthing Brand spanken new? get your moneys worth man... even if you kno what your doing and how to do it yourself say you do buy an old one couple months down the road, maybe years, it does go out your gonna pay 260 for the rebuild kit so for 40 bucks less use some busted up crap, i dont care bryce knows everything.. ive never done this.. so i am a noob i guess, but if it were me id want it done right the first time...

i have done the swap on my car

i spent around 700 bucks on my swap.

hardest part was the pedal install. no easy way around this. the concept isnt difficult, you just have to fight it in and out and it makes it worse laying under the dash for hours

the actual t5 swap where you switch the trannies it simple. just like doing a clutch job except the tranny u pull out is hte AOD. just run the clutch cable.
install pilot bearing, fly wheel and clutch. enlargen the console hole and stab the t5 and put it back together.

people will tell you that the aod xmember wont work but IT WILL. i didnt even mess with mine and it fit back up. we may have flipped it i am not sure.

people say the AOD DS will work. it WILL but i DO NOT recommend it. There is a metal stop inside the AOD yoke which prevents the DS from going is as far as it should. and made the DS a TIGHT fit, i had to beat it to get it on and had sever vibration problems. its better to just get a t5 shaft, i have an old c4 shaft i think from the 4 eye cars. it works great!
the swap isnt hard at all if your a gearhead, i went in thinking OMG here comes the SUPER HARD t5 swap. but it was a breeze compared to what people made it out to be on the internet.

good luck.
