5000 rpm's without stepping on gas

anyone know what would cause 5000 rpms without hitting the gas, sometimes it will fall down to 1100 where its supposed to be, but it dont do that much thanks

You mean when you first start it, or intermittenly while it's running? First check your tps, assuming your throttle/cruise cables aren't binding...

or you have the worlds largest vac leak. i like the binding cable idea.

i Agree those are the 2 only things other than your foot that can cause RPM Flux.....................

1100 ?? Just noticed that.. do you have a huge cam in there? Is your throttle plate jacked way open to get it to idle higher? Normal idle should be like 600-700..

I would also clean out the IAB -- I've fought problems with those before that had similar symptoms. Sometimes they just don't clean out enough (or something else is wrong) and you have to replace them.

I second the IAB issues. Ever start your car without the iab? WOW!!!
