I have the oppourtunity to pick up an 86 6 cyl., in primer, for a decent price.

I am looking for opinions, comments etc. about doing a 6-->8 swap.

What things NEED to be changed/replaced? (suspension, brakes etc.)

In the grand scheme, is it just better to buy a V8 stang from the get-go?

Thanks in advance guys.

With a car that old, if you want to do a carb setup it's not a bad deal. The car is 23 years old, there is a lot of stuff that's going to need to be changed anyway. As far as what needs to be changed, it all depends on what you want out of the car. If you just want a basic mustang with a 302, you can use the stock suspension. The 7.5 rearend will hold up too.

Don't know anything about the 86 model year for a 6 to 8 swap, but it was my understanding tha the 94-95 years were easy 'cause they share the same k-member and tranny mount. This makes me think you may have to swap the k-member to get a V8 to fit in that '86.

You may want to post this in the 5.0 forums as well, if you haven't already.

Thanks for the replys guys.

It was just an idea I was throwing around.

I had figured on things like K-members, mounts, harness' etc., would need to be changed.

I'll look in the Fox Forum and see what they say.

foxes' never had a 6cyl in it. they were all either 4 or 8s. but either way the principals are the same. k-member, tranny, rear, harness, etc. check over on the fox forum, i think they have a whole swap board for stuff like this.
