now that i got ur attention, i would like to ask if its possible to put a 6 speed manual tranny in my 98 5 speed gt. i wanna put it in and then put 4.10's in it. bad or good idea? gonna be pricy? what parts do i need besides the tranny? thanks again for helpin :nice:

A lot of money to spend to jump from a 0.67 ratio to a 0.62 ratio.

The end result will prob be a slower car anyway since the 96-98 4.6L SOHC doesn't have the torque to turn the steeper 1st gear.

Stick with the 5-spd and put in 4.10's.

A cheaper alternative is to swap in a T-3650 from an 01+ since they have the same 0.62 5th gear as the Cobra's 0.62 6th gear. The gearing in the trans is better suited to your GT.

Just put the 4.10's in and don't worry about the trans

i wanted to be different, and i love 6 speeds. :( :( :(

Then go for it.

I never understood the awe of having a 6-spd. Having 6 gears is simply a band-aid for torqueless engines.

For V8's, the 6-spd is for roadracing. by offering a 2nd overdrive usually in the 0.80 range. This is a little more usable on the track when you are doing 130MPH and need to shift from 4th.

Mustangs have Torque, so who needs 6 gears?

so in ur opinoin do u think its worth it? does it provide any perfromance pluses? i can put a real high gear in it and still make decient gas milage. how much is a the 6 speed that u got. thanks. and what all would i need to do this task. thanks again

thank you. couldn't have said it better myself!!! I HATE THE T-56!!! I am considering going with a TKO in my Cobra. The 56's gears are waaaaaaayyy to close together. Sucks to shift too.

If you are going to be making a lot of power I think its worth it. I gained on average 3mpg more city and on the highway. I spent $4k to put a viper t56 in my 96. I got all the parts from D&D Performance www.ddperformance.com, they have kits that have everything you need to install it. There really isn't any performance advantage to the trans beside having the gears closer to each other. So during WOT shifts the rpms will not drop off as much keeping you right back in your upper rpm band.
I bought the trans for the street friendly 0.50 overdrive and the strength, its going to have to take the abuse of a turbonetics 76mm turbo.

Put the 6 spd in it, you won't regret it. I had a 1996 Cobra w/ an '04 t56 and blower running 3.73's w/ 477rwhp. 1st gear hardly any tire spin. 2nd gear a little tire spin(very managable). 3rd and 4th gear were my pulling gears. Shifting into 5th, the race was pretty much over for the other person. :D
