Supercharger kit, Gears, sticky tires

I doubt it would get you instantly into the 11s but it's a very good start. Shoot for the 12s first and work from there.

how come no one ever says "put 3k in an IRA" and than blow the rest on parts. Your car is already fast. Why not think about retirement? You are going to get old someday (hopefully) and social security may not be around.

As an answer to his original question, I think this would be the best and easiest solution ...

I dont see how he would want to blow 6000 in a GT when he can get a Cobra that is quicker with warrenty.

Perhaps because he wants to build the car the way he wants to...if he got an 03 cobra then he'd have to swap out to a KB blower that would cost you well over 10-12k difference in the price of the vehicle. Lets face it 36k miles of warranty is not worth that.

Not to mention insurance rates are WAY high on cobras.

I"m still sticking by my original statement. You can take a 19k GT and turn it into one hell of a sleeper that a cobra won't want any part of. If you have a 19k Gt then you have 12k to spend before you start touching cobra pricing. That is one hell of a motor making killer power. But that is not what he said.....weigh the good and bad of both......the cobra makes killer power but if you want a warranty the exhaust and pulley's etc are out of the question. the cobra is heavy and also the IRS is not the best thing to try and race with. I would much rather have a straight axle. Plus you could set up the GT just the way you want. As to what was said about the tune and hoping it is a good one, well that is why you go to a good tuner. They are not hard to find and there are alot of them that will put some power to the ground while being safe as can be. The water/methanal kit is a great idea also, that is what I'll be running with my blower setup. I have been told by many tuners that they are your best bet to a safe s/c car. Plus you don't run a mix of water and methanal anyway, all you need is commercial grade winshield washer fluid from walmart. With a mid pipe, mufflers, vortech with about 9lbs, the snow performance kit, and a decent tune you will hit 400 to the wheels all day long. they will actually have to hold back on the cars potential because it would make too much power for the bottom end. But at 400 and a good tune with no detonation you are safe as can be.

I love my stang and have fun modding it but I really cant see spending 6k on it for mods. Yes its fun but you are spending 6k which means you had to go out and earn about 10k pre taxes. Thats alot of dough to put on a car and its value realy isnt going to go up. I would be surprised if you got 20k for that car after the mods. I am not telling you how to spend your dough and i guess this is the wrong area to preach otherwise. If I were you I would spend only a fraction of that and do something else with the dough even if you arent going to invest in your future. A couple of years ago i was in the same spot. i was 20 with a 96gt (still have her) and wanted to put some mods on. I went with some bolt ons and spent the rest on other interest. I went and got my pilots license which cost me a around 6k. Oddly the same amount you want to spend on making your already fast car faster. Which is cool I am not knocking it. But you should really think about how you are going to feel about those mods 5 years from now. Will you have the car? Will you get your money back from it? Will it cost you more in wear and tear? Does anyone care how fast your car was 5 years ago? I asked myself the same things and am glad i have my fairly fast and reliabel 96gt along with a private pilots license in my wallet. It was alot more satisfying.

Just my opinon.

Kenne Bell with good exhaust and a shifter with stops to save his shift forks. 4:10 gears. But with his stock drivetrain it prolly wont last a real long time, esp. if he decides to try sticky tires.

it won't cost him 6k if you does a budget build up. I bought my car five months ago brand new for 18,900....fully loaded GT with every option but the IUP and mach 1000, which I didnt' want. I thought I got a good deal. I just bought my v2 sq charger with everything I need to get it running and my chip to be custom tuned.....I have talked to the tuners and because they know the guy I bought it from they are hooking me up.....through this I will be out the door everything running and tuned for $2600 and that is also with me purchasing a boost cooler. Not a bad investement for 400 to the wheels. That will up my total for my car to 21,600...make that 22,500 with my exhaust. There is no stock car on the road that will make the power I will have and for 22,500 you couldnt' buy much more than a GT anyway. it can be done, just shop around and be sure of what you are buying. Most people on these boards are honest and will work with you, use the boards....you will be glad you did.

Because 3k in an IRA doesn't make the car run 11.4-11.8 in the quarter, maybe? You have a good point though, social security probably won't ever make it to my pockets. Oh well, guess I'll be working till I'm dead!!!

If you guys are angry that street racing is raising your insurance rates, than buy a focus. C'mon now, full coverage on my GT is only $900 a year and I'm 25 with plenty of tickets.

Tell him he should distribute the $6000 amongst Stangnet so we don't jump his stupid ass for giving performance cars an even worse image in the eyes of insurance companies.

Alot of people like to preach about "You should save your money for this that blah blah blah" I look at it this way. As long as your living decent apartment, house what ever and you have the extra money I say you only live once so have some fun. I honestly have spent over $14,000 on my car in the past 8 months but considering the fun I have with it every penny was well spent. I already have my retirement planned thou so an IRA would just be extra money that I would rather spend now having some fun. So to sum it up if your getting buy decently spend the cash
