I have 3.55 gears on my car and at 65 mph I'm turning 2500 rpms. Does that sound about normal? I think at about 60 I'm turning about 2200.

In regards to fuel I have since I put my last feul pump on 2-3 yrs ago have made a habit not to let my car get below 1/4 tank cause I have always heard that anything less makes the fuel pump work harder and shorten the life of the pump. Then a guy at work said he believes that sometime you need to let it run down almost empty and forgot the reasons he stated.

Thoughts guys...

There is no reason to run to empty other than a lack of funds. The gas in the tank acts as a heat sink so in theory a full tank will allow the pump to run cooler. Heat is what destroys everything mechanical not working harder. Now working harder may increase the temperature so that is why you need better cooling systems to keep the heat in check.

going 65 mph it shouldn't be at 2500 rpm. i have got 373 gears and i am at maybe 2000. i can see how running low on gas would cause more heat and in turn wear on the pump. but i don't think it would be too bad to do it occasionally. plus if you burn out a pump it gives you a good chance to put in a higher flow rate pump.

I would check the gears by counting the drive shaft revolutions for one turn of the wheel. Your numbers are closer to what I would expect to see with 3:90 gears. Perhaps the tach is off somewhat. What is the transmission type?

its actually the stock v6 tranny that I kept with the conversion

Manual I assume. The gears I was referring to are the differential gears in the rear end. Unless you know what these gears are you can't draw any conclusions as to whether the tach is reading high or low.

3.55's are whats in there

yes manual

Did you swap out the gauge cluster before the swap? I just put a GT cluster in my V6 to prep for my swap and its about 500RPM off.
did the speedo gauge cluster at same time motor was swapped and rear end and all was put in at same time. Gears were changed before rear end was put in.

to the other poster, I ordered the tranny gear to match it up. It still was and is 5 mph off when i checked via driving on interstate from mile marker to mile marking at the speed limit. But verified also with the law enforcement digital speed monitor things

and yeah if u put the gt cluster in with everything else still setup for v6, like the tranny gear and the rear end stuff then yeah you are gona be off

Funny thats how I found out my V6 cluster was bad, and it only cost me $200.

As far as the GT cluster goes everything is spot on except for the tach. The speedometer is more accurate than the old speedometer ever was.
