65 dash pad fit on a 66 ?

Will a 65 Mustang dash pad fit on a 66 Mustang? I have a chance to purchase one cheap but dont know if it will fit?

In the parts book, they show different part numbers for a 65 and 66 ? There must be some difference.

i believe the difference is the colors, i dont think they were the same color options at all... i may be wrong, im just going off of the fact that the 65-66 are basically the same car. the only thing different about the dash that i know of is the way the gauge face mounts to the metal. on the 65 gt and 66 the lower mounting holes had adapters to make it fit. i have a 66 dash pad in my 65 dyed to the correct color, but it was on the car when bought it, along with 66 doors. the po had a 66 donor car to pull stuff from. i dont think he had to do any custom stuff besides changing the color

there is a difference, if you look at a '66 dash pad, it comes down farther on either side of the radio. as far as i know, the '65 dash pad will fit, however, you will probably have 2 holes on either side of your radio where the '66 dashpad connects with bolts.

I'm not sure about the holes, both the '65 and '66 have 2 bolts protruding from the dashpad to bolt to the dash. The '65 also has chrome trim strps around the instrument cluster and glovebox. Here's some pics:

the holes i'm talking about are about 3/8 dia. i'm 81.3% sure that you will see them with the '65 dash. It's been quite a long time so my memory may not quite be with it, but when i bought my '66 it had a '65 dash on it and i think i remember seeing the holes.

looks like you're right. I've just checked back through my archives. My father's got a '66 and mine's a '65. I just checked his dash and it appears that there are extra holes on the outer edges, apart from that the holes in the centre are the same, just elongated. (A good idea now that I remember how hard it is to fit mine!)

actually, i was still wrong, i thought the holes near the radio were lower on the '66.

Now i am confused. Does all this mean the 65 will fit the 66 or not?

yes, it will fit, but you will have a couple holes showing in your dash.
