Guys this is my first post, and I want to thank everyone now for their help, cause I need lots of it. I`m not a mechanic but I love Mustangs. I`m starting to get parts together to put a small block V-8 in my T code fastback (factory 6 cyl).

First off somebody has already changed the original 4 lug drums to 5 lug, but the manuel steering box is mounted behind the shock tower, just looks funny to me, if anyone can tell me if the box is right or send a pic, would appreciate.

I am fixing to start hunting down a motor and tranny (to be rebuilt) from some salvage yards and would like some input on what to look for, like are some year models better then others. I want this car to have lots of power, adrenaline rushs are harder to find when your pushing 40 and you`ve seen alot.

The car currently has a good 200 6 cyl with a automatic tranny, which I assume to be a C-4, and factory air conditioning.

if you don't already have a motor, I would look into getting a roller 302 (85-whenever)

If you are going to drive it around a lot, you can't beat afr165s, the stock cam with some 1.7s, longtubes and whatever exahust.

With overdrive and a decent carb, you probably could have 270-290rwhp and still get 23-24ish on the highway.

So the steering box is right?

Is it set up the same way a V-8 motor would have been? I haven`t been able to dig up much info on the subject.

The car is gonna be for fun, not a daily driver, I would like it to lope a little bit when idling though, I think thats cool.

The folks around here know there stuff and are more than willing to help. The one thing to remember is to use the search function before asking questions. A lot of the common subjects have been hammered to death. So you will not get a response if it is a question that comes up every other week. Be specific, be patient and the answers will come. Welcome to the insanity.
