65 suspension and drop on front

a while back i bought a suspension kit and i never finnished in stalling it due to a stripped coil spring compressor. ive heard there are other ways of installing coil springs other than a compressor like unbolting the a-arms or something. can sombody help me with this?? i have new upper and lower a arms to put on also if that makes a difference. i also need to install a rear sway bar and ive heard that some people dont like them and some do...whats everybodys opinion on this? thanks guys

What springs did you buy to install?

You can remove the springs without a compressor if you are crazy like me....unbolt the lower, unbolt the spindle, unbolt the upper, unbolt the shock from the top of the tower and remove the cap, put a long crow bar on the upper arm and yank & run....the whole thing upper a arm, spring and shock will shoot out and hit the floor hard....this is a VERY dangerous proceedure and one that I developed out of need not want. There is also the risk of damaging sheet metal (fenders), feet (yours), shins (yours also), etc.

Did you know you can rent tools like spring compressors from autozone?

If you are installing 620 drop springs you do not need a compressor to reinstall them.

Broken body parts, hospital stay, sheet metal repair, new paint...all expensive.

Internal coil spring compressor 50 bucks. External 25 bucks.

Do the math.

Yeah, just rent a compressor. You pay your money, return it, and get your money back. No sense in taking a chance if its that easy.

they are 620 lb 1 inch drop springs. i rented a comressor from autozone and it was stripped...and i cant seem to find a place that has them in stock, i think people just dont return them or somthing.

I think you are either really crazy or have a death wish!! either way I like it!!

rentals if you cant buy is the way to go.

I actually removed mine on my 90GT without a compressor. I installed them without one too. I chained them up with a chain dog leash...bolting them to the frame of the car....jacked the car up and dropped the AArm. They came right out....but it was very scary and I would never do it again. definetly worth the $50 or so to buy one. Who knows when you may need one again!

I had to replace the spring bushings in the front of my '92 Taurus I used to have. Of course, with the strut, you had to use the exterior compressors, but you can only get to about 90 degrees of the spring due th the strut tower design., then I had a problem getting them out once I had them compressed, so I used wire coat hangers to hold them compressed. After I very carefully removed one, I tossed it about 10 foot in the air in the middle of the yard and ran like heck. Nothing happened, so I deemed it safe enough. Stupid, I know.

Dodgestang already said it, but I'm going to repeat it anyway with a qualifier. MOST 620 1" drop springs can be installed without a compressor. Install the upper arm with the spring saddle already installed and the spring will rotate in with very minor coaxing. Not dangerous at all.
