Hey guys, I did a search and it actually confused me more. I am converting to a C4 from a 3 speed manual in my '66. For the kickdown, can I fabricate a piece of flat metal down from my accel pedal and fab it to fit the kickdown cable or is there a place I can buy one? My question is mainly about one of the threads here that I read where a guy said that in '66 a new kickdown came out where it was attached to the manifold or something like that because in 65 it would bend. I looked in the Chiltons book and the diagram just shows a bar coming down from the accelerator pedal. If it does attach to the manifold, can someone message me a drawing or a link to one. I can't picture in my head what the setup looks like.

Also, will I need to buy a new brake pedal/hanger? I was looking last night and it looks like the clutch pedal and brake pedal are connected, so if I want to take out the clutch pedal (which I do) then I would have to replace that whole bracket.

Thanks.

The C-4 uses linkage, a push rod. AOD uses cable. I have one left from my C-4 to AOD swap. PM or email me if your interested in it.
On the pedal, there are a lot of guys going from auto to manual trans, so your assly is good swap material. I bought a modified unit w/ power brakes from MustangSteve. It could be a good "as long as I'm at it" installation. http://www.mustangsteve.com/BRAKES.html check it out.

I'll take a picture of the rod this evening, and post it.

I have looked online throughout the day and I have found a common theme. It sounds like in 65 the mustangs had a solid bar linkage that came off the manifold and down to the tranny. On 66 autos, there is an arm that comes down off the accellerator linkage that hooks up to a cable that goes back to the tranny. If you have a 66 with originally a manual tranny, then your accellerator rod doesn't ahve the extra arm (mine doesn't). So I found a place where I can buy a new one that does have that arm, or I can fabricate my own, or I can go with the 65 setup. It also makes since that the 65 would have the solid link because in all my parts catalogs under the trans likage there is a special metal lever that is only listed for the '65. I am thinking I will fab up my own bar coming down off the accell rod, since it is the cheapest way to go and this isn't a show car. Plus if it bends or breaks, there is no safety issue. I would like to see a pitcture though so in case I have to do a solid setup later.

Thanks

Check into a Lokar kickdown cable for a C4. I just put one on my 69-302 cuz I needed the rod for my 69-351C that had no kickdown at all. Easy installation and the shifting is much better with the kickdown activated.
