66 conv no start

I recently bought a 66 conv that has been sitting for 15 years.ive replaced the carb with a rebuilt unit.it has fresh gas and im getting spark ,but the old girl wont start.it cranks until the battery is just about flat.ive turned the mixture screws out one and a half turns.what other adjustments have to be done .any advice would be greatly appreciated.

mine was sitting for 6 or so years and i had the same problem. My problem was there was no fuel coming from the tank. I pulled the tank and the fuel filter was clogged and gross. So i replaced it and it started right up

Are you getting fuel? It takes 3 things to make any engine run. Fuel, spark and compression. Pull the fuel line of the carb and crank the engine over and see if the fuel pump is putting out. If it is putting out fuel try setting the carb to a rich condition and try giving it a few cranks. Pull out a few plugs and see if they are wet with fuel residue. If so readjust your carb and lean it out, Or see if it fires off on carb cleaner. Try putting about a cap fuel of engine oil down every cylinder. See if possibly you washed the rings from all the cranking. Has to be one of the three giving you your problem. Since you got spark you need to work it down from there. Check your fuel and compression. Does it smoke when you’re cranking the car? Sound like the timing is off? Give us some more details. Details help us help you. Good luck

I took a old plastic washer fluid resevior ,cleaned it out and put fresh gas in it .i then connected some rubber fuel line straight to the carb and hung the bottle under the hood.The plugs are wet so i know there's gas going in .the distributor is stuck,but i will try to loosen it and start with the timing adjustment.I let it sit overnite and will try some carb cleaner first thing in the morning.Thanks for your help Semper Fi

66 conv is alive

thanks shoguun and turbodoctor. I solved the problem, the previous owner had 5 sparkplug wires mixed up(must have thought he was working on a 350 chev).Once i fixed that it started up no problem and idled like a dream.Glad i discovered this site and its devoted "stang" lovers.
