Hi I am new here.

A friend of mine is looking to buy a 66 Shelby GT 350.

What to look out for in particular before buying this car.

What is the typical value of an unrestored, decent and in running condition Shelby with all parts there?

How to verify thats its a matching numbers car, engine, trans and rearend?

I know its a lot of questions but any input is much appriciated.

Thanks
Claus

Authenticating the 66 GT-350H

Serial Number is CRUCIAL to determine if it is authentic or not. I am a SAAC National officer, and have access to the VIN's. Send me the VIN, and I can run it for you.

REMEMBER: If the vin is the Ford Vin, NO SHELBY.

I did a great piece a few years ago in the Hemmings Mustang book on Authenticating the 65-66 Shelby's. Find it! Lot's of unique items to the 65-66 GT-350's, specifically in the brakes, suspension, and other areas.

The thing is that the Shelbys are very hard to find and we found one. Its in running condition and has only what appears to be slight surface rust in the underchassis, its supposed to have the original drivetrain - the engine certainly looks untouched from the outside. The car has a 4 speed, it has the rear quarter scoops, the fiberglasshood with scoop, the 9k cobra tacho, the cobra badges.
Its white but no blue stripes across the car - I was told it was an option.

The car has been added power steering in the past but the owner has the original manual steering box.

Whats interesting is that it has Carol Shelbys signature on the dashboard passenger side with a date in January 98. The owner even has video of Shelby signing and driving the car with the owners wife. Current owner had it for 20something years.

There is a riveted Shelby plate with SFM6Sxxxx and a stamped number that matches SFM6Sxxxx.

Are the cars VIN also in the engine number?
Are there any codes on the transmission and rear axle to verify these are original?

CSN,

PM me all the info, along with a fax #. I will get all the info you need from the registry, which includes all proper tag info. With your SFM number, I can give you the history of the car as well.

chepsk8 Thanks for the info in the PM

I looks like the info still matches the car, thats great. It doesn't have the magnum 500's anymore though - its the 10 spoke aluminum rims. It has the traction rods on the rear end, no stripes, it has rearseat. GREAT INFO chepsk8

I am very much interested in the info on the car as it seems my friend will go ahead and buy it, here is my fax number:

+63 85 343 3103

When ownership will be completed we will update new ownerinfo, can we do that through you?

Thanks in advance

Just faxxed about 12 pages!

Denmark, eh? I have an uncle who is a proffessor in Copenhagen!

If you need anything else, don't hesitate to call! Once the purchase is complete, please contact me or the 66 registrar to update the car's history.

Many thanks!
