I recently bought aluminum trim that I assume goes on goes on top of the camera case finish trim for my 68. The one I bought was for a 67 under the impression that the only difference between 67 and 68 was the front side markers. When I went to test the fit before I glue it does not fit properly. So are the dashes slightly different? Am I installing these things correctly?

The drivers side IS different on the two (standard and deluxe) as well as the passenger side. Only the three small (both ends and middle) should work without modification. As has already been posted the gauge pod has different plastic aroung the turn signals, and the glove box panel will need to have the mustang eblem ground flat with a dremel.

Did you get the kit that has an aluminum backing plate? If so you should get the right plastic bezels since there are tabs that will need to penetrate through the bezel and be bent fplat from the back. If you have the sick-on kind you may be okay without it but it may not sit flush either.

Hope that makes sense to you...

The ones I have are sheets of real aluminum that look like they have to br glued in. I see about having to grind down where it says Mustang. So I guess my next question what if any modification do i have to do to get a 67 dash trim to fit my 68.

I think all the panels are different. The Plastic bases are shallow, so the Aluminum panels can be glued in so the final thickness is the same as the regular dash. It's a great update, makes the 67 Dash better! Also, 67 guage layout is a bit different, but same shape.

Ya know, while I'm glad you aren't going to butcher the 68' set up to accomodate the 67' trim, there is one other alternative if you really had your heart set on it. There could be a 67' owner out there who actually would have prefered the woodgrain option and be in the opposite situation as you. If you were so lucky, you might be able to arrange a parts swap. The units are easily interchangable, just not the trims.
