The Cobra IRS isn't a bolt in for classics

I'd say that having two points bolt up and the other two only a minor fab-weld in is pretty much a "bolt in"

As my dad's old highschool friend use to say:
Nothing EVER "bolts right in". Theres always hacking and fileing and hacking and cuting and cuting and fileing and filling and welding and hacking.... ect.. ect...

I've seen the Cobra's rear suspension done in a 67, it only required two attachment points welded to fit it. The other two bolted right in.

Look again, you probably saw a DVS kit or a modified IRS cradle. I wish it was even a half bolt-in. I have two Cobra IRS drop outs. None of the 4 points of the Cobra IRS bolt-in to a classic (65-70), unless you consider the foxbody a classic. All 4 mounting points on the Cobra IRS cradle are twisted inward as well, not perpendicular nor parallel to the body. I made mine a bolt-in.

The two front mounting points are narrower than the original leaf spring mounting points falling well under the frame rails.

Here's a simple bolt-in.

This pic shows the rear upper mount wrapped around the frame rail, I shaved about 1/4" off the inner surface off the bushing housing and welded a tab that wraps to the other side of the frame rail. The through bolt goes through the frame at an angle, not perpendicular to the frame.

From DVS website, note the front mounting bracket bolted to the frame rail.

base kit is $1699 to make it a bolt-in.

I'd consider an Art Morrison frame I think before trying to get different wheel bases glued together. The AM frame is custom built to what you want.

OK, I found the you tube video that suki243 was talking about... 18 videos so far. If you guys want to look at it its listed as 2006 Mustang GT Re-bodied to 1970 Mach 1 Must see
Wow! A lot of work going on there.
I'm really having second thoughts about doing this. But that's why I'm here. Need to do the recon before I commit to the fight.
Still might get the 05+ mustang though to steal all the goodies off. But now it really doesn't need to be in the best shape... totally undriveable-salvage.
Thanks suki243 for the 411!

Wow, I watched those videos. What a colossal waste of time.

Np, just wanted to shed some light on how insane the process is. I've been trying to find those vids for a while now, i was kinda surprised it wasn't finished yet, but then again the mustang isn't the only thing he's doing.

Good for him, if it makes him happy. But its a lot of work that I'm not sure its worth in the end.

The mods to the body that he's done will definitely change the look of the car, perhaps for the worse but that's just me.

It's been a few years since I saw the article, but the front attachments as I recall bolted into the leaf spring eyes and the rear only required a simple pair of brackets bolted or welded to the frame rails. This was a black 67 Fastback with a DOHC 4.6. The owner was in the military. I think maybe he bolted the front inboard of the spring mounts using another bracket welded to the chassis, seems like the outboard end of the bolt went thru the inboard leaf spring eye.

The cradle would have to be modified to bolt in like that under a 65-70. Its an interesting mod and would simplify the exhaust clearance issue.

It's too bad your kind of limited on wheels and tire size with the irs. I looked into it a couple of months ago when a friend offered me the one out of his '03 for $350. I thought about trying to get shorter half shafts and making up some custom control arms if it could be done, but never went any further.
