67 fb hood pin install advice needed

Does anyone have some pictures/measurments for installing the standard shelby style hood pins? This is the last thing I need to do at the body shop this week before taking my car to the paint shop. Thanks...
 
If you're installing original-style, original location '67 Shelby hood pins, there's no need to measure. The pins go on little brackets that screw on to your existing hood bumper brakets. The brackets mount the pins out in front of the hood bumpers a couple inches or so. I wouldn't sweat it too much, you can do all this after paint, just be more careful.
 
Thanks for the info. I know that there is something that needs to be welded, wasn't sure if it was the hood pin brackets or the headlight bucket brackets. I have boxes of parts but haven't really looked into how those parts are installed. I figured that all of the front end grill and headlight parts could be done after paint.
 
Nothing needs to be welded as far as the front end is concerned. The headlight buckets all bolt on, the nose support bolts on, as do the high beam assemblies and the hood pin brackets. Remember, on original cars, all this was done on a brand new Mustang and they didn't want to be repainting anything they didn't have to. I would encourage you to mock up everything before you paint it as far as the headlights and grille, but the small stuff like the hood pins can go on later.
 
Help with correct bracket placement

I have the hood pin brackets but cannot figure out which one is right and which is left...see picture.. Can you tell me if the one with the bend goes on the passenger side or drivers side. Thanks

Hi Mike, the bent one needs to go on the passenger side. The reason is that the hood bumper brackets are not in the same place side to side, therefore to make the hood pins look symetrical on top, the passenger's side needs to move in slightly. BTW, did I tell you my car's done and driving? It feels sooooooo good to be driving it! If you need any pics or anything, let me know and I'll whip them right out. BTW, if you got your pins from Branda, the pop-rivets they supply weren't long enough for mine. I got some extended-reach ones from work and I have extras, so if you need them let me know. Jim

Jim -- Car looks awesome! I bet the feeling of accomplishment while driving is beyond belief! I have been at a standstill with mine, seems like no one wants to paint it. Someone came by last week and looked at it. Said it needed a little more primer and blocking and then paint. 2 guys working on it $50 an hour for both which I think is a good price. They are supposed to start on it in about a week. Hopefully it will be painted by Christmas and I can put it back together during the winter. By the way, thanks for the info!
 
Thanks for the compliments Mike, I can't begin to describe how it feels after 6 years of garage-therapy. The pic I posted was taken a few minutes after the Highway Patrol left! It was Sunday and I had just gotten the car licensed and insured on Thursday, but the DMV hadn't entered it into the computer, so when the cop who followed me home ran my plate, it came back as unlicensed. I showed him the registration and explained the whole thing and he was cool about it, and had to check it out before he left. Since these pics I put the front signals on as well as the "GT 350" rocker stripes. Oh, yeah for you and anyone else who's thinking of building a Shelby clone GET YOUR EMBLEMS AND STRIPES IMMEDIATELY!!! According to the Branda salesman I spoke with, Shelby won his lawsuit and very, very soon repro emblems and stripes will no longer be sold to those of us building clones, only original Shelby owners will have access to these things. I assume you'll need a vin# of a real Shelby to buy these parts. I'm buying spares of everything next payday, just to be safe. I've put a little over a hundred miles on it since it's been done and every time I get out of the car with an ear-to-ear grin. It's worth whatever it takes and whatever it cost.
