I have a few questions, hope you guys can help. I just bought a 67 fastback, and wonder what a 2+2 is? Does this just mean fastback? It Also is an S code car and in the decode I did the engine read 390 V8 GT, does this mean it is a GT? It has Drum brakes on the front, so I didnt think it could be a GT. Is it possible to be a GT without disk brakes? Also What is 4v? Is this 4 valve? I was told it was a 4 speed manual trans, and this obviously shows it was a c6 car. I know the guy that had it and he had it since 78, so someone must have added the 4 speed trans within the first 10 yrs of the cars life? that doesnt make much sence. Wondering if there are any other special aspects of this car I might be missing, as I restore it. Would like to know as much info as possible.

More info below. Hope you can help. Thanks

I am not sure if the drum brakes are Original. Dunno how to tell, the car was pretty stripped. I want to Restore the car, it has been sitting since 1985, in Texas Paid $1000. A TOTAL steal, I am very excited. I figure if there was someone who could put a 4 speed in this car, then they could have been capable of putting the drums on, maybe someone thought drums were better back then. Who knows. I wish I did.

Does the car have the foglights in the grill. These were unique to the GT cars. If it has the foglights, it should also have a foglight switch on the underside of the dash panel. The wiring harness for the switch is built into the main wiring harness, so if it looks "hacked" in or not a part of the original harness, it is probably not an original GT.

Unfortunately, no grill , front end was raped. Dash was gone, just metal left. I put the dash gauges back in. No harness, someone cut it at the firewall and there wasnt one in the dash where the cluster would go. Any other tell tail signs? Is there a was to tell if the drums were added afterword? Does the 390 GT distiction tell you anything in the Vin decode?

1968 was the first year for the GT to have standard front disc brakes.

You could have ordered a '67 GT without the optional disc brakes. As scary as it sounds to have a 390 and drum brakes, it was possible.

Sorry skipmell, Penguin is right about 68 being the first year for the standard front disc brakes. I been working on the wifes 68 so long I'm starting to lose my mind. Sounds like you still got a great deal, even with all the missing pieces. Lucky for you, most of the parts are available new from the many parts vendors out there.

So does that mean it is possible that the GT behind my engine code means its likely a GT? I dont see that behind all 390 engine codes. I thought it might have popped up becuase of my Vin #. I Really hope it is a GT.

That was part of the GT equipment package, yes, but you could order a non-GT with foglights.

All GT's should have a V8, foglights, side stripes, and dual exhaust, per the "package", but it was possible back then to order cars exactly the way you wanted them. Maybe a few people didn't want the fogs on their GT. You never know.

That GT after your engine code has no bearing on whether or not your car came with the GT options package. Its just a monikor for the engine, which I think started when the 390 was optional for the thunderbird. (Thats just hearsay though, I never verified it).

With all the stuff stripped off the car, the only way for you to verify what it came with is to get a marti report from www.martiauto.com. That will tell you about anything you want to know. Either way, it will surely be a sweet car.
