ONLY $400?? I can tell from your posts here that you've got a LOT to learn. For starters, 4 bolt mains doesn't make it the best or strongest 302 block made. Any of the aftermarket blocks will top it in terms of strength. Plus an aftermarket block gives you more room (bore thickness) for more cubes.
OK, I took apart my supercharged 347 last week and found some deep scatches in the cylinder bores, dont know what happend yet as I didnt take the pistons out yet, block is 030 over now. Edelbrock RPM heads look real good.
I have a 302 Boss block in the basement and am thinking of using it, dont have $2000 for a new block, What do you guys think.
P.S. Im 47 now and probably not going to find a 302 boss car to put it in.
How many scratches are we talking about? If it's just a couple, tear the engine down, re-ring it (bet you busted a few rings) inspect the pistons to make sure the ring lands aren't also broken, hone the bores to clean em up a bit, then reassemble it. Or if you want the roller block route, get one locally, these are a dime a dozen, no need to spend $500 for a new block. The block I used in my 331 build, I bought from a local machine shop for $100, that included the crank, rods and new pistons.
