69 Mach 1 Cruise Control

Howdy all I am restoring a 69 Mach I as much as possible to original specs and the original dealer option list includes cruise control. As far as I can tell all the bits are there with the exception of the control switch on the dash - there's just a hole, where the switch was ripped out by a previous owner. He mentioned when I bought it that it still should work...

Does anyone have an original 69 cruise control on their Mach I that would be happy to send me a photo of what it looks like or can offer help on where I can get one? I haven't had any luck with the catalogs I have and being in New Zealand I can't just go to a local shop and pick one up...

Any help would be great!

Wow, that's a rare option. I have only seen it on two Grande's, never a Mach.

I don't have pics, but do know of a Mustang shop in New Jersey here in the States who did the restoration on one of the Grandes, and still may have some parts.
 
Send me some pics of your dash and underhood area. I may be able to help. From all the mustangs that i have seen with cruise, they have a button on the end of the turn signal lever to set the cruise. Nothing on the dash that i have seen unless it was an aftermarket kit. I've seen complete cruise kits (original ones) go on ebay for around $1,000. If you have most of the parts then your's shouldn't be that much but finding pieces of the setup let alone the complete setup may be pretty tuff to find. Email pics to [email protected]
 
there should be an on/off switch that looks like and mounts in the same place as a 70 sportsroof "sportlamp" switch. it mounts on the bottom of the dash pad right above the radio. i have already collected most of the parts to do mine except for the actuator that attaches to the carb and the VSS sensor piece, which in 69 was not an actual VSS like the late model fords but i can't remember the actual name of the part right now.

Really? What happens if the cruise is installed on a Mach with the sportlamp switch, or a coupe with a rear defog switch, or a convertible with a power top switch? Does your setup that you have collected have the black button on the end of the turnsignal lever? There is the VSS sensor on ebay right now and has the two piece speedometer cable. There is also an NOS transducer for a 67/78 on ebay but is pricey. I think they are the same for the 69/70 also.
 
there are 2 holes under there so i guess one switch in each hole. i do have the black button on the end of the stalk but i beleive all it does is set the speed. i got most of my stuff from a 69 lincoln and it also had an on/off button on the dash but it wasn't anywhere close to the mustang specific switch. i've seen a couple of NOS switches on ebay but they were both over 100 bucks so i passed on them. i also have an NOS transducer but it is an AMC unit which doesn't really matter since the system for both cars was a dana speedostat unit. try searching ebay for speedostat and see what you come up with.

I dug out some old manuals and according to them you guys are right - there are two switches, one an on/off switch, which one manual says is next to the ignition switch (which is where the hole is) and one manual says it's above the radio.

There is also a speed switch at the end of the turn signal lever.

Since I have a aftermarket radio and new cover I can't see if there was a switch above the radio - but it could have been moved to next to the ignition switch.

On my car it looks like the turn signal lever may have been replaced with a standard one, but the wiring holes and the wire cover is still there. My next step is to see if I can find the original wiring under the dash - one I do I'll post here to let you all know :)
