69 tank in a 67

Have any of you put a 69 gas tank in your 67 or 68? I was told that they bolt right in, which they do, but what do you have to do to make a connection between the filler tube and the tank inlet? There is a very big offset. I cut the tube about 2" shorter and that doesn't help.

The problem is that the tank inlet sits much further to the rear of the car, and to make a connection even with a flex hose would create an 'S' shape that I'm sure would affect pumping the gas in beyond a trickle.

Any help is appreciated!

My buddy had a later model tank in his '68 coupe, all I remember is it fit and the top stuck up higher than the original one.

A pic of the difference might help.

A big stick stuck in either the tank inlet or the filler tube and some gentle force might help. I'd say cutting the filler tube and rewelding it at a different angle would work.

Yeah I had to use the broomstick trick on the new tank in my 70 to make things line up right

There was an article in mustangs monthly / mustang and ford a couple of months back that showed how to do this. There suggestion was to use a broom handle in the tank to get the proper alignment. For what it worth I have a 70 tank to go into my 67. The 70 gives a little more range is why I picked it. If you are still having trouble by this weekend I will make you a copy of the article unfortunately I am out of town until then.

Thanks for the input. The tank had already been installed, I just needed to get the filler attached. I didn't think about bending the tank neck. I guess I thought that it might break the weld. I'm going to find a pipe a little smaller than the neck and give the "broomstick" method a try.
