69 Upper Ball Joints

[Smash It Up]

Noticed today that my left upper BJ rubber boot has fallen apart,(see pic) so I'm assuming that I should replace the whole ball joint, right? (probably can't buy boot seperately)
It is a 3 bolt pattern on that side,which I thought was weird because on the right side,the pattern is 4 bolts,(2 on each side). Why the difference? I don't think they are original,I know I had the upper control arms changed when I got the car,but can't remember if I had the ball joints done too,it was years ago.

I numbered the bolts in the pic. 3 is hidden behind the hanging piece of rubber ! Number 4 I think is a grease nipple. Couldnt tell too good cos its covered in sh1t.

Ad for replacements,any particular brand that I should stay away from? They have $13.49,and $45.99 ones at Autozone,and at Partsamerica.com they have ones for $31.99. Any recommendations?

Upper ball joints are very inexpensive, just replace the whole thing. I don't know the specifics of the ones you mention, but no matter what even $45 is inexpensive.

I would pull the arm out and check to see if the shaft of the upper arm is shot as well. No sense replacing the ball joint if the shaft is shot. At that point you might as well get a hole new arm.

The $1/3 NL game over there is juicy w/ tourists, but I like my local action better.
