I'm picking up the front disks off a 70 coupe today. for $250 i am getting spindles, calipers, rotors, rubber brake lines, master cyl, and proportioning valve. I'm also going to see if I can get him to toss the outter tie rods in. is there anything else i need? I see write ups for doing the granada swap, but i'm assuming it will be a little different with these. any key points i should know about? my many question is what i am going to have to do in the order of brake lines.

The spindle from the 70 is identical to Granada except for the tie rod mount hole size. The 70 uses a different caliper, caliper bracket. The bracket and caliper from a 70 fit on a Granada spindle and vice versa. Make sure to use the outer tie rods and hoses from the 70. The install is identical otherwise.

Undoubtably some zealot will repondes saying that you shouldn't install a Granada or Granada type spindles on a 65-66 because it will cause bumpsteer. This has been true only for those who have also made large changes in coil sping rates and lenght along with excessive A-arm drops and very wide tires. The Falcon based Mustang suspension was not designed for performance use and has basic problems, notably bumpsteer (the tendency for control arm travel to result in steering inputs. When driving over a bump causes a steering input). The geometry of the mounting points for the control arms and the tie rods are not optimal. The geometry was inproved in 67.

If you avoid making extreme changes to the suspension you won't have new problems. In any case the swap of the 70 or Granada front disc brakes will give much better braking performance.

hey designs

I have seen post of swaping rear drums to rear disk I have a 69 coupe I would like to convert is this simple or does it require cutting of axels. Is there a car out there I can just go and take the parts from or is it easy and cheaper to just buy the kits on line.

Sorry for the hijaked post

just got back from picking them up.

now, i wont be installing them for about a month or so because body work and paint are being done now. anything i should do to prevent seals from drying out or the caliper from freezing? i will be tearing it all apart to clean and paint the spindle and caliper.

Sorry, I'm not up on rear disc brake swaps. There are many post in archieve. I think that the money would be better spent on other projects. The original rear drum brakes are adequate, since they only handle something like 30% of the total brake load. IMHO a rear swap is mostly a bling thing. Keep in mind that my view point is biased toward driver cars, I have no interest in owning or building a racecar.
