All, first time on the board. Hi.

I have a '72 that I just dropped a 351W in and I have a major header problem. I bought Hooker 6208 1 3/4" headers and they don't fit...they REALLY don't fit. I made the [stupid] assumption that I was smarter than the Hooker people, since 71-73 was not on the application list. DOH!

Anyway, does anyone have a 71-73 with a 351W, with power steering, and headers? I'd really rather not use the ol' power steering relocation bracket. Hooker 6901 seem to be the ones, but shortys might work too.

Thanks,
Brad

P.S. Anyone looking for NEW Hooker 6208 Super Comp 1 3/4" engine swap headers 64-70 Mustang 351W? They're roughly $490 @ Summit and Jegs. I'd take $350 to get rid of them. PM me.

i had the same problem but i have a 351c in my 73 mach. i bought the hookers because i love the tone but when i went to put them on we had tons of problems. i ended up cuting some of the motor mount bracket and then denting one header tube. i didnt see a diff in power engine didnt really mind it much. just if you make a dent make a smooth transition with it. good luck the ps bracket lower wouldnt make a diffrence in my case.

I've got the Hooker long tube super comps in my '73 and I had no fitment problems at all.

All, Thanks for the info!

I didn't want to give up yet on the big tubes so I jacked up the front end last night and went in from the bottom. I think I might be able to make them fit...with a little 'cold working' of the pipes as mentioned before. Stay tuned.

jikelly - pictures would be great. Also, do you have stock heads? I've got World Products Windsor Sr. I'm just worried about the 'may not work on aftermarket heads' as listed on the Summit website. At any rate, $150 isn't bad! I was also looking at the Hedman Elite headers (for a lot more $$$).

Thanks again,
Brad

The 6208's fit! And here's how it finished. There is a tab on the steering column, I think for the steering lock in park, now it's gone. Some twisting and turing, pushing and pulling, and the headers finally slid in.

Go figure! I guess Hooker can add 71-73 to their list on these.

Brad

I finally got my pics up on my website so you can view them.

These are how the headman shortys look on the drivers side. You can see there are no clearance issues with the steering system.
