Well, it's been a while since I've posted anything. I have just been enjoying the car this summer.
I finally yanked the engine a couple weeks ago. Everything looked good minus a chunk missing from the #4 cam bearing...strange.
Rebuild has gone pretty good so far. I've replaced the old hyper pistons with some stock forged ones. Piston to wall is .004", which is what I was hoping for. Cylinders only had .001" of taper and .001" out of roundness. I can live with that. I deglazed the cylinders with 240 stones and finished with some 320s since I'm running moly rings.
Here's some pics of the process:
The old hypereutectic pistons
Block still had crosshatching when I opened it up.
Decided to port match my headers...bottom one has been done in this pic.
Polished the crankshaft myself.
Checked main and rod clearances...All looked great.
Checked piston to valve clearance since I'm running a B21 cam. Intake is .100" and exhaust is .240". I'm taking .010" off the heads as well.
Shimming new trick flow valve springs.
Assembled short block.
Been relooming engine bay and cleaning things up since I have plenty of access.
That's pretty much where I am at. I should be getting my head's back from the machine shop this week. With any luck, I'll have the engine sitting back in the car next weekend.
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.
