The dimensions are approximately the same, but none of the brackets and screw holes are in the same places.

Then of course there's the matter of the park/turn lamps. These are down in the valence panel 71-72, but in the grille in 73.

I better squash the misinformation before you start throwing money at this. The correct answer to your question is "NO", you cannot install a 71/72 grill in a 73 mach1 and keep the 73 fenders and bumper. The 71/72 grill has a plastic lip at the base that will interfere with the 73 bumper.

The 71/72 stripes will work just fine. I'm not sure why you feel the grill should be changed as a result of adding the stripes. It will look just fine.

If you want to understand more of the differences between the 71-73 years, you may want to read these threads:

IMO, if they can pick up on the stripes, they can pick up on the other subtle differences between the 71/72 and 73. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Funny, I thought those stripes were available in 73. Too bad. I've seen many 73's at shows with them, and not once was anyone dancing around the car saying "Eeww, wrong stripes!"

I thought there was some difference between the 73 and 71/72 stripes. I can't think of it now.

I probably am, from when we were thinking of painting Eleanor Ivy Green and making her look all classic Mach instead of Eleanor (no side stripe, just the bottom one, like the Boss 351s).
