'73 might be down for the count

I was on my way to Palo Alto College for my night class when I noticed the seatbelt was hanging out of the door on the passenger side. So I pull into a deserted parking lot and put it back in. I then turned into a small street. I was waitning at a stop on a street intersecting with a street that narrows. So I was stopped there waitng for the train to go by ahead where I was going to cross. Then Some one in a huge boat g-ride wooshes in front of me catching my bumber and front end with his side. I was not sticking out, I think he wasnt paying attention and tried to steer clear at the last second. Anyway the guy veers into oncoming lanes, no traffic though, corrects, them zooms off into the distance. So I made the report as a hit and run. Cops couldnt do anything and I only have liability insurance. This really sucks. I will try and post pics later. Doesnt look good for the '73. I am a college student with no money and that was my DD. We are going to determine if there ws any frame damage, other than that, the front fenders, radiator, bumper, fan, front valance, grill, and tip of the hood were all damaged. I feel like crying. I raised that car from the dead twice, looks like "Lazarus" has gone to be with the Almighty and the Right Hand Man this time.

just remember. theres no unibody you cant fix. buy yourself a geo metro and put it up on blocks. you shoulda seen my front end after my accident.

Wait a second, the cops couldn't do anything for a hit and run? Was your car non running after? You couldn't pursue? If you saw him veer and correct after hitting you must have at least been able to get some kind of a make on the car even if you didn't get the plate number, IE: a yellow-ish 70-ish pontiac-ish or something like that, no? If you have some kind of description at all I'd at the very leat be stopping by all the local body shops in the area in as a large a radius as I could cover and offer each place $100 for a tip on any car with front passenger damage matching the make and coming into the shop.

I can only imagine how you feel, I got a huge chunk of insurance money to fix my car and I still felt like crying. Bottom line, the ball is in your court, you can either take you misfortune on the chin or you can do everything in your power to find this f***head and make him pay, one way or another.

one question, did he "zoom" away in a straight line out of sight, or did he duck around a corner after a quick burst of speed? and 2 is this like a residential street or one loaded with businesses, preferably banks or state/federal buildings?

Dang that's nasty. That really sucks! Maybe I've been watching too many cop shows lately, but . . . Isn't there paint on your car from the guy that hit you? Maybe you could have it analyzed.

Outch!!!! I second our friend that said that there is no unibody you can't fix. Put it on block and revive the monster one more time.

Fully understanding your predicament (having been a student for MANY years), I am extending any parts you may need for your repairs. I am parting a 71 Mach 1 (see the classifieds for many pics.... http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=534313 ) and will let you have any parts you may need at a good price. The beauty is I live in Louisiana and have friends making the trip to Houston often (not to mention that I will be at the Ford meet in Baytown next month), so maybe we can meet.

No I could not pursue. The radiator got pushed just enough to where the fan got stuck in the lower coil of it. From what I saw it went strait then made a right turn about 1/4 of a mile up the street. The cops didnt get to the scene until like 20 minutes after the incident. I will be make a few runs through the area because the cop says chances are he probably lives close by or frequents through there cause it is sort of residential.

I am on the look out for a ealy to mid 90's truck for now and I will be saving up to get the car back on the street.

i was in a hit and run and i had the license of the car and a description. they took the info and then i don't hear anything for 2 weeks. i call and i'm told because no one was seriously hurt it was low priority. there was a warrant out but unless the car got pulled over in a traffic stop and the plates were run there wasn't going to be much chance of an arrest. i called my insurance company told them the story so they had the plates traced and found the guy and took him to court for the damages. that's one case where insurance company greed won out.

well that sucks, i had an idea that i heard really worked, i mean if by chance he passed a building that had cameras monitoring the parking lot and/or driveways, like a bank or a federal building, or even an intersection with those little video feed cameras on him, you could have gotten a copy of the tape and forked it over to the insurance or the cops whomever.....it was a longshot but hey it was an idea....
