some horrible news.. just in time for the holidays

hey guys... some bad news:notnice:

on thursday my stang was sideswiped by a guy in an '82 chevy 5 ton :nonono: I was on my way to pick up a christmas gift from the guitar store for my friend.. how ironic. the passenger side quarter panel, door, mirror, turn signal, headlight, and fender are done.. and there is a small tear (but a tear none the less) on the hood, and a scrape on the front bumper. Words cannot describe how angry I am.. I love that ****ing car. The good news is the damage appears to be strictly cosmetic, so it should be repairable and not be written of (thank all that is sacred for this..) but it still looks so damn bad. I was able to drive the car home and he's parked in the garage right now, but I still cant bare to see the car this way. Ill try to get some pictures here to show you guys the devistation.. but for now I just want to attempt to enjoy my christmas with the family and deal with this afterwards.

Im also going to get shafted by insurance (Ill have 50% fault at the least) just because I was pulling onto the street from a stop sign. The intersection is a horrible one, there is an offramp from the highway (which also comes around a blind corner), and then a section of no-mans-land road that has no lane designation. All the traffic coming off the highway files through this ambiguous zone into the left lane, so I checked and proceeded with my turn. Thats when the truck whipped around the corner, sped straight through the ambiguous zone still at freeway speed, drove between BOTH lanes, and the steps on the side of his truck clipped me in my lane.. damaging the side of the car and finishing off by ripping off my fender  Note, I had already completed my turn and was fully in the right ****ing lane. I was so awe strucken by the damage that I did not even look for witnesses.. I was about to hit the pavement when I got out of the car and saw what had happened to my baby. :fuss: Now I have to deal with the insurance company as the young guy in the red mustang.. lets hope that my maturity and persuasive expression of language will help me cut the stereotype a bit.. but im not holding my breath. :bang: The other party actually made contradictory statements already (at one point they said that I pulled into their lane :bs: and then later in their testamony they said that if I was in their lane they would have killed me) so hopefully that gives me a few points. Regardless, I will have to pay my $500 deductible.. which I was just getting ready to put towards a nice h/c/i purchase from VibrantRedGT :(

The whole thing really scares me and my family because if the truck was any farther over into my lane, his tires could have contacted my drivers side.. possibly fatally injuring myself and the car. I guess things could have been much worse, and I am extremely thankful for this..

On another note, I wish you all a very happy and safe holiday with your loved ones. Cherish them and be thankful for their company, I know I will.

I remember when someone ran a red light and I took him out with the stang.....It complrtly sucked!!!!!

At least your ok man!! Cars are always replaceable!

yeah man... u got lucky, someone was watching over you...

but heres my beef... i highly doubt itll be 50% ur fault, u said u had already completed the turn and was in moving traffic, the person came from behind u if i understand correctly? each operator is supposed to control their own vehicle at all times... evidently he came in ur lane and hit you.... its just as much his fault if nething.... did u already get the police report yet?

Sorry to hear about that:( I too got in an accident front driver side got busted up headlight, hood, bumper support, bumper cover, radiator support.2800 in damages:( :( Car still drivable I should have it Fixed by jan 5th:)

But project blind got messed up the projetor and housing I made aren't broken but the head light broke into three pieces:( so I have to buy a new set.:(

So like last year I won't have my car for christmas or new years.
luckly I wasn't hurt.:)

I had already completed the turn, but since there are no witnesses to prove the scenerio it will resort back to traffic laws.. and I had the "stop sign" (even though I had already stopped and nosed up to initiate my turn) Im just fighting to get at least 50% (as opposed to 100%) so that that bastard has to pay his deductible and his insurance pays for his own damage. Like I said, he was driving over 50 km/h, he was overdriving his ability to control his vehicle, he made an unsafe lane change (or a lack of lane choice whatsoever). In his report he stated that I ran the stop sign and drove into his lane.. hes trying to milk the situation and is saying his new gas tank has scratches and his steps are damaged.. and its affecting his business and he wants compensation. What a lying piece of **** :crapola:

Sorry to hear about all this. Not trying to be a dick or bearer of bad news but good luck with the insurance. When my hood blew off and strached my fenders and dented my roof my insurance wanted to total mine. You have way more damage by the sounds of it then I did. Hope it all works out for you though. Sounds like you need to get pics of the area and fight it out that its a bad intersection to begin with.

Heres a pic.. it does look much worse than it is but its still devistating for me. For a car that I take so much care of I cant STAND to see it like this. I took the car into the shop today.. guy right away said the car should be fixed and not written off, but then I asked him for a ball park figure on the repairs, he figures 6 grand.. then I told him that these cars arent worth as much as he might think. After all, I bought it for about 8 grand (and it was in spectacular shape.. 8 month old interior, year old top, 102,000 kms) so Im really worried about ICBC deciding to write it off. Cars like this in my area (BC canada) are actually listed for alot of money, so I might sneak by.. this one is selling for 10,900 and its virtually exactly the same as mine except Id say mine is a little nicer. (http://www.buysell.com/root/detail/...5588591/1994_FORD_MUSTANG_GT_CONVERTIBLE.aspx) and theres similar ones going for the range of 9-11 thousand.. Im just really worried because ICBC will probably shaft me on the value of the car and try to give me bottom of the barrel value.. Ill have a damage quote by Jan 4th.. but I love this car.. I dont know what to do guys :( this blows

first off, glad you're ok--could've been much worse.

can't really tell (monitor's shot on this laptop) but looks like all the damage is on parts that you can bolt off and back on--ie, fender, hood, bumper, door shell, etc.

so long as the frame isn't damaged, i wouldn't worry that much about it. little by little, buy the body parts and put them on--even if that means driving your car around with different color body parts until you can get them painted.

i agree with punisher, it doesn't seem too bad as long as there is no frame damage, etc. From the pics it looks like you need a hood, front bumper, headlights/corners, fender, mirror and driver door.

It definitely sucks but it is fixable and now would be a good time to do some upgrades(aftermarket hood/front bumper, clear headlights and corners).

yeah i say after you get a quote you ask for just a check.

my friend louis did that with his car, and he got everything mad cheap, so he ended up making money off of it alittle bit, but it went right towards tickets he had to pay off.

Ouch.... that hurts me. :( Sounds like the construction worker I had to deal with. All he did was bust my mustang's windshield with a rock. He was pulling a trailer with concrete pouring forms on it. Rock, dirt, mud, and gravel everywhere. I was back far enough from him that people were passing me, getting hit by his rocks and then they passed him and honked flipping him off.

All be damned.... a big clump of mud fell off the trailer and erupted into a shotgun scatter of rocks. Even being back hundreds of yards, here they came bouncing up from the road. I swerved and missed most of them. Took two big ones to the car. One broke the windshield. I called my buddy who is a cop. He said call 911 (since his license plate was covered up). They had a highway patrol waiting on him in the next town. He managed to turn right before getting to the highway patrol. I followed him to a lady's house where he rudely asked me why the hell I was following him. He AND 3 other HUGE guys.

It was not a fun situation.... they all lied about everything. He basically threatened me, called me a liar. Then proceeded to say he wasn't even on the road I was claiming it happened on. :o Then he changed to I was a young punk in a fancy car that was looking for a free repair for something I did a different day. I stayed true to the truth of the matter and didn't back down even though I was skeered chitless.

Ended up talking to the highway patrol, without the construction crew being there. He said the damage wasn't bad, but would probably spider across in the next day or two. I had to talk to the owner of the construction company, who also didn't believe me. But we settled on him paying me for a new windshield and me not filing an actual report. He paid me $20 more than my quote cost, I signed a copy of the quote saying it was taken care of. And I went on my merry way. He was a jerk about it all, I just stayed pleasant but firm.

I then had to drive past the same guys EVERY day on my way to and from work until they finished their buildings. It sucked.

Moral of the story: Stick to your guns. Don't back down. Don't settle because HE is intimidating and lying about what happened. Show them, the car is nice.... and it's that way because you baby the hell out of it. Explain to them, you consider it a classic and rare car. (Kinda is right?) And you treat it as such.

 :D GOOD NEWS :) :) :) :nice:

The car is going to be fixed under insurance! The total repair costs (parts, labour, paint) were $7,000.. so the car was looking to be written off.. I spent a grueling week conversing with the adjuster and ICBC has decided to fix it. I hunted down reciepts from the previous owner (he saved them all for tax purposes) and there are about $7,000 worth of reciepts for the stereo, wheels, tires, top, interior, clutch, mufflers, filter, etc. I also found for-sale listings of cars very similar to mine in my area selling for $9,500-$11,000, and presented these to the adjuster. The adjuster also inspected the car and marvelled at the good condition I have kept it in. Long story short, I got a call today telling me that after reconsiderations, the car will be repaired under insurance. Everything seems to be going right for me today (knock on wood) and this is just icing on the cake :D This is like a freakin anvil lifted off of my shoulders... two weeks from now and the stang should be safe and sound at home :)

nice. I bet your very happy with that news haha.

i got a letter in the mail a couple days ago, about how whoever runs NJ taxes, thinks my cars worth well over double what I paid for it, so they want me to pay more in taxes. I gotta send them a copy of the receipt.
