I'm confused, some places I'll see stuff for 79-04 and it will be reverse rotation, other places I'll stuff from 64-82 and it will be standard rotation. How can I tell, I just bought the OEM part from advanced. Its a driver side inlet if that makes any diffrence. The crank only turns one way the last time I checked and there is only an alt. and water pump so I'm guessing its standard rotation as a reverse would be on a factory serp set up right? HELP before I give myself a headache!!

you should need a standard rotation waterpump... a stock setup has the a/c compressor and power steering pump which causes it to be reverse

I'm thinking all factory equipped v-belt setups use a standard rotation pump. If you see serpentine belts its probably reverse rotation.

you are right but if you eliminate the power steering and the a/c compressor the belt is going to ride on the other side of the pulley. Stock is reverse on a serpentine setup but if you use just an alternator and water pump, you will need a standard rotation pump.

if you have any questions, go to the store and cross referance the part numbers between a 79 and 89. You know that the 89 is reverse so if its a different part number then its a standard flow

Y'all are both wrong---- there are both std and rev rotation W/ pumps with serpentine style belts. There are NO rev rotation V-belt pumps. The ONLY 79 motor that got the rev rotation pumps were the Stang's 5.0's ( this was the first application for that) The 88 Crown Vic accessory setup I used for my V8 Ranger uses a std rotation pump and serpentine ( flat) belts.

thats what I said... sorta

If he only uses an alternator he needs a standard rotation pump because the belt is going to to on the right side and top of teh water pump pulley, down under the crank pulley and back up to the alternator.

If he was using a stock setup with a/c and powersteering then the pulley goes down from teh bottom of the power steering pump back over the top and left side of the water pump pulley making it reverse rotation.

THey make both for serpentine but he needs a standard flow
