Fl1a trippled in price and changed for the worse so I switched to wix, seems there making changes to cut cost on their filters too now looking at BITOG site. Anyone used the fl1a alternative from ford they got from champ when m&h couldn't fill back orders in time FL2119B12, haven't seen one yet or anyone that cut one up online searching, there on rock auto pretty cheap.. I grabbed a case of clearance champion's off rock auto. Older stock Mexico made by Interfil, federal mogul. Good enough for my most of my beaters but rather have the old top bypass fl1a's.

More I'm reading online seems many filter companies are changing stuff up since covid issues and companies being bought and sold. All my wix where old base style by pass normal 51515's like the old fl1a's. Guess I need to start opening boxes in wally world see what they still sell for these and if any are still using the base bypass design. I gotta stop buying stuff by the case, there changing designs by the time I run out.

I am old enough to remember when Fram filters were considered the best.... They sold out ( many years ago) and now they are at the bottom.... Things change and not for the better....
Good to know about the Napa gold change..... Its been my fall to filter if I needed one quickly..... Not anymore....

Idk seems like after covid we raced to hit rock bottom quality on so much stuff any more, see it in so many different industries now so not suprised by oil filters

Even the CM-6731-FL1A filter has a bypass valve. Talked to my engine builder and his suggestion is the WIX 51515R. Which FL-1A filter has the bypass?

Pretty sure this one does not as its the newest version.

Does this one?

So does the change from have to do with potentially sucking debris into the motor when it’s at the back of the can when the valve opens vs at the base?

I use the WIX 51515R on the race engine with excellent results.

Potentially, I've had filters where that style sticks, cut a few used filters open with that style and found relief not seated, bypass is only around 14psi, most filters will bypass on cold starts especially in winter depending on the oil and temp.. That style bypass means the oil is flowing over the dirty media to

Yeah, pretty much just looking for filters that still have the old fl1a and frpp filter style bypass valves, the 51515 I looked at was actually an xp filter, had the newer style bypass at the end of the can looking inside vs the base plate like my older 51515 stash..
