Hey all it's been a while since I've been around.

Anywho I have my rear end out. For about the past 5 years or so the clutches have been getting weak. I've decided to get the Ford Racing clutches. They claim that it will fit any 8.8 and were used on some of the newer cobra cars. Does anyone know if these are any stronger than the standard clutches or just a marketing scheme?

Next I was wondering if their is just the side gears available for 31 spline axles. I don't see a reason why I should replace the entire differential assy (even though a torque biasing diffy would be nice).

Next I read in the Ford Racing high performance comic book that some of the newer mustangs had 31 spline axles in them. Anyone know if these are interchangeable with the fox mustang? I don't see why not because the fox and sn95 platforms are about identical... Then again once I convince myself that it would work it would have something very different.

The FRPP carbon clutches are a bit better, but more important is if you put one more friction/steel disc in than is normally in there. I don't believe just the side gears are available new - if you want them, go to a junkyard and tear into a 95 or 96-up explorer rear axle. The only factory Mustangs that I know of that had 31 spline axles were in fact, the 99-04 Cobras with IRS...however you can get the proper length axles (Fox vs. SN95) from Ford Racing, Moser, Strange, Superior, and others. SN95 axles make your car .75" wider per side, because they have room for the ABS ring on them.

Thanks for the reply.

I guess I did not realize that the SN95 axles were wider. They will not do because I would need to take off about 1/4" from Moser axles to fit the 325/50/15s.

I guess I'll just have to spend the coin for some good axles. But at least I won't have to buy an entire diffy.

Anyone else?
