Going to swap a 7.5 rear in my 88 hatchback to an 8.8. Here's my question, will i need to change the driveshaft or can I use the same one ?

Unless you have a car that was, or is a 4 cylinder engine Mustang, you already have an 8.8 rear end. The 87 and later 5.0 engine Mustangs came with an 8.8 Track-Loc rear axle as standard equipment.

Are the rear drum brakes on an 8.8 rear the same as a 7.5 rear ? The reason I'm asking is I have a 7.5 with good brakes and an 8.8 I'm going to swap in that needs all the brake parts.
.

Ahem,....it's not a "posi".

Posi is a GM term for a locking differential.

People that own Fords have Traction Lock diffs. (T lock for short).

Just FYI.

I am also getting ready to do this swap on a '84 that I recently picked up.
Let me know how it goes.
From what I've read this is also the best time to upgrade your control arms and replace the spring isolators.
