8.8 Rebuild Question....

My bro-in-law and I recently rebuilt the stock 28 spline differential in my '93 coupe. We re-shimmed the clutch pack so that the spider gears went back in extremely tight. Last night, got the differential installed in the rear and slid my two new moser axles in. Put the c clips in, pulled the axles out, and went to put the pin in. Well, I guess since we re-shimmed the spider gears, it doesn't allow the axles to move outward enough to give enough clearance so the pin will go through. I've heard of quite a few folks rebuilding the rear this way and was just wondering if anyone else has come across this problem before.....

Thanks in advance!

I had the exact same problem when I tried to setup my trac-loc tighter. I ended up just setting it up at factory specs.

I've definitely seen some posts on here that talk about this. Try a search for something like "posi shim" if you haven't already.

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice Jeff! I've heard of local guys doing this and I know it's been done before, just don't know how they managed to get it done.
