Tach is 7K on 5.0's and 6K on 2.3's, you might wanna swap it out or get it recalibrated.

If you use the tach from the 4cyl, it will read double (aka 2000rpm at idle), so you'll want to swap a v8 unit in there.

Most Mustang tachs that I have worked with have a switch on the back to change for 4-6-8 cylinders. Just change it. My straight 6 car seems to work fine with a 302.

The only tachs that have a switch are the '79-'86 6K tachs.

87-89 have a full tach and spedo, 90-93 have virtually the same but with a cut out at the bottom that cant be seen when its installed for the air bag lines going to the steering wheel.

you might want to consider something like this if you can't find a 5.0 Speedo
