8" Rear End

Last year I tried ordering a built 8" third member from MAE. It's like they didn't want my business, I contacted him and got a price and told him I would like to order it. Jack said he'd send a request for payment in my paypal. A week goes by and nothing, so I email him back saying that I still want the rear end and he replies that he will send the request. Another week goes by and still no request. After that I just said screw it, and kind of glad I did because now I will have a 9".

I have been looking on that and other sites and notice that 9" stuff starts the same or less money than 8" stuff.
With the strength of the 9", I can't see spending the same on the weaker 8".
Even light duty 9" stuff is considerably stronger.
I also found a listing of weights on the stuff and found a 9" is only slightly heavier than the 8"... Like 10 lbs when comparing 28 splines and standard case. 2 lbs for the housing and 8 for the case assembly.
9" all the way...

You forgot to mention that the 9" has alot more gear ratios to choose from.

The 9" is a must for drag racing. The 8" does well in road racing and light street use.

I don't know how close Morgan Hill is to Pomona but there is a vendor there that sells 8 and 9 inch center sections with a limited slip or locker with all different gear ratios for about $200 less. Best part is that you don't have to wait, they have a ton that are already built and you just pay and haul away. They have a warranty also.
