84 5.0 electrical problems...

daughters 5.0 was not holding a charge, advanced said it was battery, new battery, same problem, she bought alternator and volt reg and installed them, still not getting past 12 volts to battery... anyone have any good suggestions?? she needs it asap...

what happens if the stator and field wires are switched??

check all the ground wires also is the battery still located in the engine compartment or has it been moved to the trunk? welcome to stangnet....

I had that problem but it was the voltage regulator. I'd double check the plug that goes to the VR because mine was so corroded that it didn't make contact enough....i hope that's not false hope but it did it for me. You won't (or at least i didn't) find a new plug, i had to splice wire ends on each wire and plug them each one on where they go.

You can get the plug/harness for the VR at any parts store. I had to replace it in my old '79.

Damn you're lucky, Advanced Autoparts and Autozone didn't have either here. I couldn't even find one in a salvage yard.
